Justine

I was fuming at Brandon. "Are you're done telling Alex all of my business? I decided that I'm not going to say another word about why I don't want my father to find me. You can figure it out with your brothers, Mr. Lawyer."

Brandon was still sitting and holding me. He ended his phone call. He let go of my arms, rubbed his thumb over my face and gave me a penetrating stare.

He didn't say a word. He kept eye contact with me, like he saw through my tough girl facade and could see through the layers of my hurt.

"Whenever you decide to tell me that's fine. I'm going to pay the bill for our food and then we should get going. I'll be right back." He got up, with the check in his hand and went to pay the bill. He had a sadness in his deep rich voice.

I sat there in the booth touching my face, where his thumb had traced an invisible line that electrified my senses. This man had me unhinged, from a singular simple touch on my face.

What is happening to me? I felt like telling him anything he wanted to know after that. His touch was like a truth serum.

We left the Diner and Brandon's demeanor was now changed from earlier today. He opened my car door for me to get in and was intently watching me. I was unnerved, when he got in the driver's seat and strapped on his seat belt.

What was going through his mind? Was he upset with me? Normally I wouldn't care, but I realize that what Brandon thinks matters to me for some reason.

"Corwin, I'm sorry I said I'm not telling you why I'm running from my father. I know you are only trying to help me. I see now, how sincere you are. I have trust issues." I apologized and was trying to get him to say something, anything.

He started up the car and punched an address into his GPS. "I'm taking you to the safest place I know, right now. I need to keep my eye on you and whatever information you can share with me, would be greatly appreciated." He whipped out of the parking lot, without looking at me.

"Where are you taking me? I refuse to go to Megan's house. I can go to a friend's apartment. I have a lot of hiding spots." I was babbling to him and started twirling my hair out of nervousness.

"I'm taking you to my mother's house. Her home was a safe haven for Megan and Liliana, from John McKay. It will be for you too." He stated matter-of-factly.

"There is no room for negotiating on my decision, you have to trust me on this. Even though it may be difficult. My family will protect you, I-I will protect you." He continued driving, looking straight ahead at the road.

I hung my head in defeat. "Megan, lives next door to your mother. I told you in plain English, that I don't want Megan involved. I can stay somewhere else." I stated in an abrasive manner.

He pulled over on the side of the road and we came face to face. "The way I see it, you have no choice. If John McKay is after you, for whatever reason, you need protection. That man is a loose cannon. I've dealt with him before and I'm sure we got off easy."

He raked his hand through his thick black hair. "I'm not negotiating, I already told you. My mother lives by herself in a huge estate. You will have privacy and I'll be able to help you. I know you don't have a better plan." He slowly lifted my chin and pressed a finger to my lips.

Before I could raise another objection, "Shhh. . . I don't want you to argue with me, please. Why do you have to be so difficult?" He asked very calmly, and I was melting in my car seat. This man is giving me butterflies. He's so, so. . . him and insanely handsome.

I didn't even get to respond, it happened so quickly. He pulled back onto the road and I just sat there unable to resonate a sound.

I suddenly, had to admit to myself that I had met my match in Brandon Corwin.

What am I going to do now? I certainly didn't plan on staying at his mother's house. That's what I get for following my heart and not my street sense.

Brandon

I had to take control of this situation. Justine, cannot keep running from John McKay, without protection or food to eat. I had a hard time at the Diner realizing she probably hasn't had a decent meal in a while and she can't have much money.

I know my mother isn't expecting us, but nowadays she's more accepting of situations like this after Avalon, Megan, and Liliana. They paved the way. I'm sure she won't mind Megan's sister staying at the house.

I had to shush, Justine. She sat there so insistent on her own way, even when it didn't make sense. I admire her tenacity and fierceness. At that moment she looked so incredibly beautiful and I'm realizing she was more than I had bargained for.

That touch to her soft lips, sent a shiver down my spine. It rendered her speechless and I loved it.

She is the first woman, to give me such a hard time. But I refuse to leave her to fend for herself, with that madman running loose.

As soon as she tells me what her father wants, then I'll be able to figure out a game plan with Alex and Chance. Hopefully now, she's ready to talk.

John McKay

"Paula, where did Justine go? You know something, that you're not telling me. I'm trying to ask you nicely." I was losing my patience.

"I already told you, that I don't know. She stopped by here and I told her that I couldn't help her. She got a ride and I haven't seen her since." Paula's voice shook nervously.

"You better not be lying to me. I'm going to find her and she will help me in my scheme. I always get my way." I assured her angrily.

"If you hear from her again get in touch with me, immediately. This is goodbye for now." I breathed close to her face, in a threatening manner.

Those daughters of mine cost me $500K and I didn't forget it! If they won't help me, I'll find another way. But I will get my money from those Corwins.
