It was Christmas afternoon when Y/N was released from the hospital with her son. She held him tightly in her arms while Scott pushed her wheelchair toward their car, the nurse walking awkwardly behind them after Scott had insisted he would push his new family out to their vehicle. After strapping their small son into his carseat Y/N climbed into the back seat beside him and Scott slid into the driver's seat happy to finally bring them home, Scott had a surprise for them there.
Melissa had been out of state for the holidays but had flown in the night before to surprise her son, daughter in-law and her first grandchild. She had made the decision to stay at the house while Scott went to pick up Y/N and the baby, whose name she didn't even know yet. With it being Christmas, she decided to start working on a small Christmas dinner for the family when they came home. She was standing at the stove, mixing up gravy when the young family walked in the door.
"Merry Christmas you two. Oh I mean you Three."
"Melissa? I didn't know you were here."
"Well Scott called to let me know the baby had come and I decided to come be with you for the holidays and meet my grandson."
"Mom, meet James S. McCall."
"Hi James. What does the S stand for?"
Y/N rolled her eyes answering in a monotoned voice. "Stiles."
Melissa and Y/N both looked at Scott who was beaming at the name causing Melissa to roll her eyes. "I should have guessed. Anyway dinner is almost done if you're up for it."
"Oh please, I haven't eaten anything but hospital food and a dunkin' doughnuts bacon egg and cheese croissant in 3 days."
"Well I've got you." As if he could tell that his family was about to eat, James started to stir and cry.
"Oh no what's going on?" Scott asked in a worried tone.
"Calm down Scott he's just hungry." Y/N said, a slight laugh in her voice .
Scott looked at his wife with a confused expression "How do you know?"
Melissa chuckled. "She's a mom now, moms know."
"Exactly, so pass him over here and get one of the bottles I pumped at the hospital." Y/N smiled, reaching for her son but Melissa held him to her.
"Don't worry about it. I'll feed him, you two eat and just relax."
"Are you sure?" Scott asked.
Melissa nodded. "Absolutely, gives me some time to bond with my grandson."
A few hours later the three of them were sitting around the living room, Scott rocking his son in the rocking chair that had been in his nursery, at least that's what his mom says, and Y/N and Melissa sat back on the couch talking.
"So Melissa, how long are you staying?"
Melissa smiled, looking at her son and grandson across the living room. "As long as you want me to, I have a few weeks of vacation so I can stay and help you adjust for as long as you need."
Scott looked up with wide eyes. "Mom I don't think-" Though he was cut off by his wife.
"That would be amazing Melissa. Thank you so much."
"Anything you need. If I can help I will, it can be quite a transition so I'll help as much as I can."
"But Mom, don't you want to-" This time he was cut off by his mother.
"Nope, there is nothing I want to do more than help with my grandchild and there is no where I would rather be than with my family."
Scott smiled down at his son, continuing to rock him back and forth in his arms. "Honestly, neither would I."
