Scott wasn't necessarily a forgetful guy; he was just too busy to remember certain things. In almost a year of their relationship he had forgotten her birthday, 3 dates, their 6 month anniversary, the first dinner with her parents, a study date, the second dinner with her parents, and homecoming. Some things were just more important. Not more important than her but more important in a generalized this is life or death kind of thing, and she understood. Scott certainly made up for it in the little everyday things he did. Walking her to class, picking pretty flowers for her on the way to school, well planned and nicely executed dates that always left her stunned. She didn't mind the forgotten things because it was the everyday things that made things so special to her.
Their one year anniversary was coming up and Y/N had come to terms with the fact that Scott was probably going to forget. At first the thought had bothered her immensely but as the weeks drew on and it got closer to the day she got over it and found it nice to not let to worry about if he was going to forget or not weigh on her. She was content with him forgetting and more times than not she found herself forgetting the date too. Until it was finally upon them, then she couldn't stop thinking about the date, or lack thereof.
She stood at her locker that morning lost in thought until Scott came up to her and tapped her on the shoulder, a bright smile on his face and for a moment she thought he remembered. Until he spoke.
"Wanna come over and study tonight? I have a history test on monday that I want to study for." He asked.
Y/N sighed and thought for a moment. "Ugh, sure. When do you want me to come over?"
"I'll come pick you up after practice." He replied.
She nodded and kissed him on the cheek. "Alright, sounds good I'll see you later." Then she turned and made her way to class.
Later on that evening Y/N sat in her room on her computer waiting for Scott to come pick her up. It was just after 6 when her mother called up the stairs that Scott was at the door. She slung her backpack over her shoulder and rushed down the stairs. After a quick greeting and a quick goodbye to her family they rushed out the door and to his bike. As they drove Y/N noticed them taking a long way back to Scott's house, something he often did for the two of them to have time alone. It wasn't until they were slowing down to a stop that she noticed where they were.
"What are we doing at Derek's?" She asked, looking up at the building.
"I left something here the other day, wanna come up with me to get it? Derek isn't home." He explained.
She nodded and got off the bike and took the helmet off before following scott into the building. Once they made it to Derek's loft Scott pulled the door open and made his way into the pitch black room. Y/N stood in the doorway waiting for him but he turned around and motioned her inside. She only took a few steps inside, watching as Scott searched the still dark apartment for whatever it was that he had left there though it was only a moment before he was shouting aha and the whole room lite up.
Lights hung low from the ceiling, creating a beautiful warm glow around the room, a table was set for two in the middle of the room and Derek's couch was covered with pillows and blankets with Scott's computer sitting on the coffee table in front of it. Y/N's eyes were wide in awe as she walked further into the room taking in everything around her.
"What is this?" She asked softly.
Scott laughed. "Did you forget? It's our anniversary."
"I thought you forgot!" She exclaimed.
Scott walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her holding her tightly. "I know I forget and miss a lot of important things but I will never forget the day you became my girlfriend." He assured, giving her a kiss on the nose.
"I love you Scott McCall."
"I love you too," The two slowly leaned in and shared a sweet kiss. "Now let's enjoy our date."
