"Well, that's alright, ain't it? If you face no challenge, you're not going to get tougher," Nana said over dinner.
I nodded my head respectfully. When Kieran and I had more or less given her the gist of what happened, Nana was almost close to storming to the school and demanding that I'd be taken out of Gym class. Fortunately, she had done a complete 180 degree turn and was now only giving me words of wisdom. The worst wasn't over yet though; any minute now and I bet that the all the phones in the house will be blowing up.
I was right. Just as I was cleaning up the table, I heard the shrill telephone ring from the living room.
"Better be ready for your sister," Nana chuckled.
"I'll get it," Kieran said, disappearing from the room. A few seconds later he shouted, "For you, Cece!"
I walked towards the living room with quite a troubled face. Kieran saw it and handed the telephone over. He went back to help Nana but not before giving me a teasing smile, which made me feel more anxious.
"Hello?"
"Are you alright? What happened? Is Rika behind all of this? Just say the word and I'll give that bi--"
"Calm down, Frankie!" I cried. No doubt I missed my sister, but when she's screaming as if I just died and gone back to life (Funnily enough, that's what it felt like when Cameron landed on me) I'm more than happy to just throw the phone down and go on about my life. But then again, she only became this way out of concern for my well-being.
"I can't calm down when I heard that my little sister's gonna look like a panda!" She vented in frustration. I could practically hear her pacing in her dorm.
"Half-panda," I said, "It's only my right eye." She didn't need to know the other details.
"As if that makes it any better! You have a black eye, my little Ariel has a black eye! I can't believe this! Oh my gosh, tell me, your hair's fine, right? Tell me!"
So it came down to her obsession with The Little Mermaid. I've never felt so loved than this day.
"Frankie, are you concerned for my well-being, or for how I look?" I grumbled in annoyance. From the corner of my eye, I saw Kieran appear from the doorway. He leaned his body on it and crossed his arms, an amused smile on his face as he watched on. Judging by the look on his face, he's easily guessing what my sister was saying over the line.
"Who hit you? Who?" She asked in a deadly voice.
"It was an accident," I said, emphasizing each word with a tone of defeat.
Suddenly a phone rang from Kieran's direction. I saw him look at the screen before letting out a laugh. He answered it, "Don't worry, your sister's alive and well, captain."
Now Quinn's calling? From the end of the phone Frankie was still rambling on and on about my safety. A few seconds later, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. My eyebrows bunched together in bewilderment at seeing Walter's name, his red hair and goofy smile flashing on the screen.
"Wait a sec, Frankie! Walter's calling!" I said to her in a rush before hitting the screen on my phone. My eldest brother's worried voice came on the line but before he could complete his sentence, I cut him off, "Walter, I'm fine. I'm fine!"
