Capituló 18

"We are leaving tonight." My mouth dropped opened as his words, but no one said anything else. My mom just nodded, and went to go hug her mate, as did everyone else. I was the only one left sitting down on the floor, as I watched the couples hug each other for the last time until they saw each other again.

"Our birthdays aren't even for another four days," I breathed. Dimitri, who stood at a corner, arms crossed across his chest, looked at me for a few short seconds before he answered.

"We are going to take the fight to them. We need to stop this now that we know where exactly they are." He paused for a few seconds. "We won't be leaving you alone." My mom nodded again as she untangled herself from my dads grip and came to me. She helped me up, and wrapped her arms around my shoulder as Dimitri continued. "You will be free to walk around the property, but do not venture out into the forest. A handful of warriors from both sides will stay with you and will be guarding the forest at all times, but just make it easy on them and stay here." We all nodded.

All of the high ranked women were staying, wolf or not. They didn't argue like we did at the beginning; they knew that if they went, their mates would be too busy worrying about their safety and would easily be a target. So they opted into staying here with us, which gave us even more protection than we already had.

"If anything is to happen, anything at all, you know what to do Delilah. You know where to go." She nodded at my dads words as he turned his gaze to April, June, and Mags. "You three know what to do as well. Do your jobs."

"Guardian chickens on duty, sir!" Mags yelled out, causing all the adults to burst out into laughter while everyone else just stared in confusion.

"Good, good." The smile stayed on my dads face for a few more minutes before he sighed. All the wolves who were going took that as a sign of departure, and they immediately began to hug their family members all over again.

"Just this one time Em. I know you don't want him, but if he doesn't get the proper... farewell, he won't be able to think right. Beloved or not, you are all he thinks about." My mom whispered in my ear before she let me go. She gave me the smallest of winks as she slightly pushed me towards his direction, and I bit my lip.

Could I? Could I really say goodbye, even though I didn't know him. I knew he was immortal, but there was still the smallest of possibilities that this was probably going to be the last time I would ever see him.

I could feel his eyes on me as I stood there, a few feet away from him, making up my mind. I couldn't even look up and return his stare. I didn't know if I should continue on with what I was doing, or give him -us- a chance.

When my eyes finally looked up, I knew it was too late to do anything else. He was already walking towards the door, his back straight as he strolled away from us, from me. My mouth split open to say something, but the words got lodged in my throat, and I ended up staring at everyone as they left in silence.

A soft squeeze of my shoulder and soothing words brought me down to my knees as a lone tear slid down my cheek. I didn't even know why I was crying. We hadn't said anything to each other, but it seemed like part of me was breaking, knowing the person that was meant for me had left to go fight without a proper goodbye. A goodbye from their other half.

"You just have to say the feelings out loud to yourself." My mom whispered as she patted my back. When the second, and third tear rolled down, she crushed me to her chest and wrapped her arms around me. "Your heart knows what it wants. It's just your stubborn mind that won't listen to it."
