Liam left me alone, standing behind the bush. What was that all about? One minute he's a jerk and the next he's a softie. He's so confusing, it's not even funny. Should I still see Luke? I don't know what to think anymore.
I feel like I should listen to Liam, but something is telling me that Luke is a kind and caring person.
"Don't go. For me."
Liam's words go off in my mind and I try to hide a small smile. I can't believe he has to beg me to stay away from someone for him. Reality comes back and I realize I'm still standing behind the small bush and Luke is still waiting for me. I feel the need to listen to Liam, but being rude and ditching Luke isn't something that 's on my to-do list. So I make up my mind.
I turn the corner and see Luke is talking to another girl. She's pretty.
I shake my head and walk over to where the girl and Luke are. "Am I interrupting something?"
Luke looks up with a surprised look on his face, "Oh hey." Hey? That's it?
"Um, did I miss something here?" I look at Luke, completely confused with what is going on. "Or did you forget that we were going to have picnic?"
"Excuse me," he says to the girl. "Can I talk to you?" I nod and he grabs my arm, but not roughly.
"What is up with you?" I ask him when we're far enough from the girl.
"I was thinking," he starts to say. "And I do-" I cut him off.
"You know what, I'm just about done with you, Liam, and everyone else that's in your little gang. All of you change your minds and have mood swings that I can't seem to follow. What are you, a woman? And I'm done with your games, too. I want to get to know you, I really do. When you're ready to do the same, you know where to find me," I turn away from Luke and furiously leave him behind Lange Hall with the pretty girl whose name I do not know.
Liam. He had something to do with this. I'm sure of it.
I text Valerie, telling her the picnic was a no-go. But should I go back to my room? I'm already out and I don't feel like staying inside. I should find Liam and talk to him about everything: What happened last night and why everyone is all of a sudden pushing me away.
My phone goes off but I ignore it as I make my way over to the frat house. College just started and I'm already a wreck. When I walk up the stairs to the front door of the house, I realize that I'm still not sure of what I'm going to say.
Without knocking, the door opens and Liam stares at me. Did he know I was coming?
"Well, look who's here," he smirks. I'm too stunned to say anything, so I just stand there without saying a word. "And why are you standing outside my house?"
I hesitate. "I had to lecture you about something."
"And?" He leans against the door frame and crosses his arms, looking very amused.
I don't say anything again, so he continues. "Please, come in."
"I don't think that's a good idea," I tell him. I can tell my anger is subsiding and I know that won't help my cause as to why I came here in the first place. He's being too polite.
"Why do you say that?"
"I just don't think it is," I say. "Can we talk out here?"
"Um, sure," Liam says with a clear, confused expression on his face.
I sit on his steps as he closes the front door behind him. "So what would you like to talk about?" he asks as he sits next to me. His arm brushes against mine and he's sitting so close, making me scoot over and away from him.
