Christy was satisfied with the intense silence she had created, but her anger had peaked at a brand new level. Link wearily looked up at her intimidating stare. She cleared her throat and let go of Scott's hand, focusing completely on Link.
"It was all your fault. It still is all your fault," she said, with a low and creepy tone.
"And, I love how you have no words for yourself either."

Link gulped at the sudden pressure he felt, and fought against himself not to cry. Christy and Scott both watched him stutter on his breath, and he was struck with embarrassment that made his entire body tense up. As Christy's glare remained strong, Link only had one more idea.
"S-Scott..."

Scott previously tried to hold off from interrupting Christy's big scene she so desperately wanted, but he couldn't any longer with Link's big blue eyes begging for it to end. He was shocked that he managed to keep himself back from Link when he first arrived, as all he wanted to do was take him away and fix this more adultly. Maybe over a cup of coffee, and no past resentments finding their way in. All Link wanted was words, any of them, but to his surprise Scott spoke up before he could try, only for him.

"Babe, this isn't such a good idea-" Scott said, trying to pat her shoulder supportively from behind. He realised his choice of words were a bad mistake, as when Christy slowly faced him, her expression told it all.

"And now you're defending him too," Christy chuckled, drawing out the 'now'. She pushed her hair softly away from her face, and carried on speaking as she turned back to Link. "You're not doing yourself any favours Scott."
After her final remark, Scott was disgusted in his wife. It was like she was being an immature child, wanting her way and her way only.

"Sounding articulate doesn't help the fact you're acting like a twat," Scott thought to himself. He didn't even feel guilty from it, but also couldn't help letting a small unidentifiable snigger slip out. Scott knew he shouldn't have been thinking anything of the sorts about his own partner, but he had a feeling by the end of this 'event' he was standing in, they wouldn't come out the same people anyway.

Meanwhile Link hadn't moved from his same spot, hiding his face with his hoodie sleeves, waiting for Christy to make her next move. Wether it was punching, spitting, shouting or.. even kissing again.. Link just wanted it to be over. He looked over at Scott to try and get him to repeat, and it worked.

"Christy, no. You can't do this to him," Scott insisted. He quickly moved in between her and Link, stepping side to side as she tried to get away and blocking her view of the scared man.
"Move- out- of- the- way!" she screamed, pushing her husband back on every word. He stayed persistent, taking every hit and push as strong as he could. They continued on for minutes; Christy trying to get her sight back on Link and failing with her high heels proving to be a hinderance. Once she was close to giving up against Scott, something slipped out of her mouth that made Scott step back, and back, and even further back.

"Why the hell did you marry me if you hate everything I do?"

The struggling stopped. Christy's mouth gently fell open, as she stumbled back from her sudden statement.
"Why did I marry you?" Scott replied back, yelling at this point. "Because I thought you were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life, damnit! I thought the absolute world of you... and now look... look what you made me do!"

Christy was shaking her head in disbelief, reaching down to her left hand and fiddling with the expensive ring showing her supposed fidelity. She slid it up and down her finger whilst thinking, finally letting it go and leaving it on with a huff.
"You proposed to me, so that was your mistake wasn't it. All you dated me for was my looks, so I could just hang on your arm at work dinners to impress all your 'doctor friends'. I was never important," Christy paused. She looked over at Link still standing with the most terrified look, and felt shivers crawl down her back.
"As for him over there-"

"I can't do this, Rhett, I can't."

The moment the note eventually dropped onto his kitchen floor, Rhett had already bolted out of the room and down the road, with Charlotte following suit. She had no idea where he was going, but knew Rhett was the most likely to know where Link would be. They headed into the local woods, and disappeared from the public as they moved deeper inside the huge maze-like greenery.

Two pulled muscles and a few curses later, Rhett and Charlotte found themselves perching behind a set of bushes, trying to keep quiet as they watched the three people they were searching for loudly arguing. Scott had just arrived at the scene, and Christy was beginning to bicker with him, not holding back.

"Rhett, we can't just sit here, we need to help Link!" Charlotte viscously whispered, but it was almost as if Rhett was completely deaf. He spectated through a small gap in the leaves and remained silent, listening carefully to their intimate conversation which sounded like it was being projected though concert speakers. Charlotte didn't even know if Rhett had even seen Link yet, shaking in the distance.

"Why did I marry you?" Scott was yelling. Rhett peered closer in, and spotted the two face to face. "Because I thought you were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life, damnit!"
For the first time, Rhett thought about Jessie. How wonderful she looked the first night they met. She meant so much to him, and the absence of feeling a ring on his own finger suddenly felt even more painful. He refused to let Link come to mind at the same time, but it was too hard. Rhett swallowed the lump in his throat and listened on.

"Rhett!" Charlotte nudged his arm, to be repelled off and she sighed. "It's obvious they are married, Christy and Scott, I'm hearing it too. Look, you can cower there and listen all day long, thinking about whatever happened when you two were kids, but Link is scared and needs our help! You can see that, right?"
Charlotte turned to Rhett, concerned by his complete change of behaviour since they left. His face was pale, but not like when he had his anger spurts. This was colder.
"...Right?" She trailed off, noticing her attitude was the least helpful thing for her to have. Rhett's eyes scrunched up as warm tears rolled down his cheeks.

"Oh, oh Rhett."
With nothing else to say, Charlotte collapsed onto the man beside her with spread arms, feeling him break inside them. It was so strange to see such a big, usually strong guy be so vulnerable. They heard the conversation only meters away continue, until Charlotte's head perked up when she heard Christy speak quiet, but madly chilling words.
"As for him over there-"
