Link was bed-bound for nearly week, until Christmas Eve arrived, and he finally had enough energy to get up and walk around. He sat on the edge of his bed swinging his feet with boredom when he heard his favourite noise- three firm knocks on his door. Link grinned as he let Rhett in and stood up to greet him.

"Happy Christmas Eve, Link! Sorry I haven't been here for a while, work's been getting on top of me again!" Rhett laughed.
"Hello, Rhett," Link smiled as he went back to his bed and Rhett came to sit next to him.

"Woah Link, your neck.." Rhett said, trying to get a better angle to see it. Charlotte had removed the medical patches and just a few marks remained visible.
"Oh.. Yeah," Link sighed. He tried to forget what happened with Scott but now he started to remember again.
"Looks like you got yourself some love bites!" Rhett chuckled sarcastically. "Who've you been kissin' then?"
"Nobody," Link quickly answered. He tried to move on the conversation, because he didn't want to make Rhett panic at all. "I've missed you a lot."

"You too, bud. How's your hand healing up?" Rhett held Link's right hand and looked at the now almost-invisible scars.
"I'm very proud of you for not busting them open again," Rhett said. Link smiled and held on to Rhett's hand.

"Link, so last time I was here I talked to Charlotte about getting you a therapist. Did anybody come?" Rhett asked, rubbing little circles on Link's palm. Link took a second to think, and he fidgeted with the corner of his sheets.
"Um, yes. He did."

"Link, I can tell something is really bothering you. You can tell me anything Link, absolutely anything. I hate seeing you upset."

"Everything is fine, honest." Link lied. He took his hand out of Rhett's and took a small sip of water.
"Well, alright." Rhett sighed.

"Can we go and look at more decorations," Link asked, looking out of the window on his door. Rhett nodded and went to get Link's chair.
"No, I want to walk this time," he smiled.
"You sure?" Rhett asked, but Link was already heading towards the door before Rhett could answer.

They both headed to the main lobby of the ward, and sat down at the back, holding hands.

Link was getting so sick of being in the same room for days on end, but he wouldn't leave anyway unless if he was with Rhett. He knew if he was with Rhett, nobody could do anything to him as he would be protected, essentially.

The waiting room was pretty much empty, with only a few patients sat with their families, looking at the decor.
"Hey Rhett," Link said.
"Yeah. What's up?"
"Where is my family?"

Rhett didn't answer immediately. He looked around as to avoid the subject, but he was trying to think how to word his response.
"Well Link, you had a wife."
Link looked shocked at Rhett, who didn't really want to be sharing this information.
"Link, let's walk so I can explain better."

The two stood up and walked up and down the corridors.
"I had a wife?" Link said. "Where is she?"
"Well, it's complicated. I won't go into it all tonight. Maybe another night," Rhett explained.
"Please, just a bit," Link pleaded. They arrived at a quiet area of a corridor, and Rhett turned to Link, and held his shoulders.
"Your wife.. She disappeared. A few months back. We never knew why, but she was an amazing woman, and you loved her very much."
They both stayed silent.
"O-oh," Link answered. "You d-don't have to say anymore. I get it."

Link looked up, and Rhett followed, to see pearly white mistletoe hanging a few foot above them. They both looked at each other, and they both knew the time was right. Rhett cupped Link's face into his hand, and they slowly leaned in with their eyes closed, to be interrupted by someone across the corridor.

Link looked to his left, to see Dr Hudson rushing towards him. Link felt his head go light, but he quickly adjusted himself as he could not let Rhett know anything.
"Hey go- I mean Link! How good to see you," he smiled.
"You must be Rhett," Scott said, shaking his hand. "I'm Scott Hudson, Link's phycologist. We've been doing therapy together, haven't we."
"Uhh.. Yes," Link stuttered. He didn't know how chanting 'beautiful' and 'gorgeous' and kissing, and whatever else Scott was planning was meant to be therapy.
"Sorry to interrupt your, um, moment there. Just thought I'd come by and say hello," he smiled.

Scott picked up his briefcase with the lime green clipboard sticking out the top, and headed off.
"I'll see you tomorrow Link, for that surprise," he laughed, and disappeared around the corner.

"Well, he sounds quite nice," Rhett said.

Link felt queasy and lightheaded, and fell back against the wall.
"Oh dear, better get you back," Rhett smiled, picking up Link like his bride and carrying him to room 403.

He lay Link in his bed, and grabbed his backpack.
"Well I better be off now," Rhett sighed.
"Also, I never got that kiss."
Rhett leaned over the bed and pecked Link on the cheek, making Link blush.
"See you soon, Link," Rhett said, and he left.

Link lay in his bed smiling from Rhett's adorable little kiss, and Link filled with immense joy. That was the best he had felt in months. However, it didn't last long, when Link remembered Scott would be back tomorrow with his 'surprise'.

And Link knew this 'surprise' was going to be very, very dirty. He could feel it.
