Recap

Layla hated to admit it, but deep down, she was hoping for Julian to tell her that he was doing this for her. She wanted to hear him say that he was still trying to make things better between them.

Julian was right when he told her that she had no idea what he had been through ever since they stopped talking. After all, she never made an effort to find out anything about him after Liam told her to keep her distance. She began realizing that maybe she was just as much at fault than Julian was.

Yet, it was probably too late now to apologize.

Once she composed herself, Layla slowly opened the door to Sir Dunkin's office and peeked inside to find him talking to Julian. She noticed Julian's shoulders go stiff at the sound of the door creaking open, and knew it would be best to simply avoid him for the time being.

"Hi," she said nervously, waving at her father.

Sir Dunkin smiled back and raised his index finger, asking her to wait for a minute. "I'll let you know about it as soon as I get more details on the event. Thank you, Julian. You can get back to work now."

The young man nodded and turned around to leave the office. Layla watched him discretely from her peripheral vision, but it didn't matter as he simply walked past her without sparing her a single glance. She sighed as the door shut close behind her, and approached her father's desk.

"You wanted to see me?" she said.

"Oh, yes. I wanted to talk to you about yesterday... I'm really sorry, Layla. I should've asked you first if you were okay with Julian working at the bakery. It all just happened very quickly. He asked, and I agreed. It seemed pretty convenient as well since I've been needing some help lately."

Layla sighed. "It's not your fault. I completely understand why you did that, and I'm actually glad that you've gotten help. You're getting old and I don't want you to break a bone while lifting those heavy sacks of flour," she replied, chuckling.
