Recap

When Carla turned around and spotted Julian standing there, doing absolutely nothing, she waved at him. "Young man, would you be kind enough to help Layla over here carry fruit baskets from my car if you're not too busy?"

Julian looked over at Layla who seemed a bit nervous and wondered whether he should refuse and back off. However, then he thought about how he'd hurt her and how he wanted to make things right, so he nodded at the older woman. "Sure, it'd be my pleasure, Carla."

With that being said, he followed Layla outside, crossing his fingers as he hoped he'd get the time to talk to her and fix their broken relationship.

Layla walked out of the Genskins' residence through the back door located near the kitchen, which was where Carla had parked her car. She marched in long strides, trying her best to ignore the sound of the footsteps following her.

Why did Aunt Carla have to ask him for help out of all people? Couldn't she have asked anyone else in the crowded room? Of course not, it just had to be him, she told herself, muttering a few colorful words under her breath.

She didn't mind his presence, but she was confused as to how she was supposed to behave around him. He'd told her the most hurtful words he could the previous day, and had told her he wanted to talk to her about something earlier this day.

Layla was obviously curious to know what he wanted to tell her, but she wasn't sure if it would be in her best interest to find out or not. She shook these thoughts out of her mind and forced herself to calm down. Maybe he wouldn't try talking to her after all.

With shaking hands, she reached for one of the baskets containing fresh apples and quickly turned around to escape from his vicinity. Almost as if the Earth was siding against her, she somehow tripped on the ground, losing her stability.
