Cheryl & Liam - I've Tried Everything

Chapter 8

JB was still absolutely fuming as he rejoined the party a good 20 minutes later, immediately downing another can of beer. He agreed with Cheryl about not wanting to start a fight in front of people they barely knew as he knew that he would be the one to look bad, not her. He just knew he had to put up a false pretence that everything was ok between them, and he knew he could do that; he'd done it many times before.

"Do you want another can mate?" JB asked Marvin who he was really close mates with.

"Go on then, but that's my last one. Rochelle would kill me if I got drunk at a 4 year olds birthday party" He laughed as he accepted the can.

"How's everything going with the pregnancy?" Justin asked Marvin.

"Yeah, it's all going really well. She's craving bacon with custard and every time she has it I want to puke in front of her" He laughed making them all chuckle.

"Cheryl's hormones are all over the place at the minute" He laughed, being careful what he said as he was talking with Cheryl's brother Gary too, "One minute she's all calm then she's shouting about something then she's really hyper"

"That's just Cheryl mate" Gary laughed and patted him on the back.

Over in the other corner of the garden, Cheryl was sat talking to Kimberley, Lily, Nicola and Rochelle.

"You're telling me Liam just turned up after not having seen him for nearly a year?" Nicola asked astonished.

"Keep your voice down Nic, I don't want rumours to start. But yeah, he just turned up cause he wanted to give Ruby her birthday present. He wasn't very happy with me though" Cheryl sighed and pushed her hair through her hands.

"Why?" Lily asked.

"The way I handled everything when we stopped talking, I tried to talk to him but he was having none of it and drove off. Right enough about me, someone change the subject"

The topic was changed and wasn't spoken about until later that evening once everyone had left and Ruby was in bed.

"Are you gonna talk to me about Liam now or are you just gonna blank me again?" JB snottily asked his wife.

"I will talk about it when you stop acting like a child" She huffed.

"Why was he here?" JB asked again.

"I told you-"

"The truth Cheryl" JB bit back.

"I am telling you the god damn truth" Cheryl angrily replied, getting worked up every time something left his mouth.

"You're sleeping with him" JB stated as if it was a fact.

"I really thought you'd changed-" Cheryl sighed, resting her hand on her bump.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" JB rolled his eyes.

"It wasn't long ago when you apologised for talking to me like shit and accusing me of sleeping with someone else and that you'd really try. You're gonna lose us JB" Cheryl sadly replied, it hurting her to have this conversation time and time again. Cheryl simply turned her back on her husband, leaving him speechless as she made her way upstairs and to get ready for bed. Her heart felt heavy as she trudged up the stairs, it hurting her that her husband really hadn't changed and even though she loved him so much she just knew that maybe she was making a mistake by giving him so many chances and staying with him.

JB sat in the kitchen with a glass of whisky in his hand, his mind going into overdrive as all he could think about was how close Liam and Cheryl were and how jealous he was that Cheryl shared everything with him, something she was supposed to do with her husband, not her best friend. It pained JB to admit to himself but he knew that he had been in the wrong many times throughout their marriage and that his jealously had led to many of their arguments, but he couldn't help it, he loved his family so much that he didn't want anyone to get in the way of it. He knew damn well that he had a lot of work to do to get her trust back after breaking it so many times, maybe it was time he changed for the better?
