The day my heart started to break was the day of the employee pool party. The same party that Ryan had said he wanted to go to because I'd be there. The same party that we carpooled to in his Toyota, arguing that since he controlled the aux cord on the way there, I'd get to control it going home. The same party that I went to his house and helped him make his food for. That party. He barely spoke to me.
We got out of his Toyota, Ellie and Ryan, the golden duo who did everything together and were 'oh so cute together why don't they just date,' to quote one of the lifeguards.
We put his food on the table, and he was instantly swarmed by girls.
Did I mention that only three guys total worked at the pool?
Ryan being super cute, and super fun, managed to also be super popular with the ladies. He was showing off, and flirting, and left me in the dust. I bobbed around in a corner of the pool, watching everyone (everygirl) splash him and chicken fight with him and jump on his back. And I didn't join in. He didn't ask me to, and I wasn't the type of girl to throw myself at a guy like that.
I didn't get my turn to control the aux cord because I walked home from the party.
