2 And A Half Months Later
Daniels POV
We just celebrated Christmas and the New Year, it was a great Christmas, a little difficult with Katie being heavily pregnant but nonetheless it was great, Fabian is due to be born in 2 weeks, it's the 8th January today so we're on our second day back at school, seems pretty soon after the new year but it is what it is.
"Ok class so today we're going to be doing a spelling test, how many of you think you're good spellers?" I ask my year 7 class, they're cheeky for 12 and 13 year old. Half of the class hold their hands up.
"Sir, some of us are dyslexic" Marcus points out.
"I am aware of that Marcus, but dyslexia covers a range of difficulties, some may not be able to spell, but can read well, and vice versa, and plus those of you with dyslexia may still think you are good spellers" I explain.
"Why are we doing a spelling test sir" Imogen asks. None of these kids put their hands up before talking, I don't really go by that rule, I tell them to be quiet when I want them to, and if any of them speak over each other and sort it out and tell them to listen to the other person.
"Because some of you, some of which think you are good spellers, are not quite as good as you think, in fact, someone spelt 'Tuesday' wrong, they spelled it like this.." I say and write it on the board 'Teudsay'. "Now, I'm not going to say names because they may feel embarrassed, there's no need to be, that's why I'm here, to help you learn how to spell, so go to the back of your books and spell the words that I say" I instruct. Everyone does as I've instructed.
"First word?" Ellis asks.
"Ok first word will be 'Friends', 'Friends'" I say and repeat. I give them a minute and then give them the next word, I give them 10 words to spell before I ask for them to pass their books forward to me.
"Now what sir?" Aliona asks. Just then my phone rings.
"Erm, I'm sorry guys, I thought my phone was on silent" I say as I look over to my blazer that sits on the back of my seat. I quickly walk to it and take my phone and to see it's Katie, she never calls me during work, I let out a sigh, what is it? It must be an emergency. "Err, get a book and read it, I'll be back with you in just a minute" I tell them. I answer the phone."Ka-" I try to speak but she interrupts.
"Took your time!" She says seriously.
"I'm teaching a class sweet" I say in my defence.
"Well, I need you to come home, like, right now" She demands. I can hear her breathing heavy, like panting.
"Why? What's wrong?" I ask concerned.
"Nothing, I hope, I'm in labour, my waters have broken and everything" She blurts out.
"What? Are you sure? You're not supposed to be due for another 2 weeks" I point out.
"Well I guess he's coming 2 weeks early, Daniel, please just come home right away, I'll get mum and Matt to baby-sit Sebastian and Tyson seeing as everyone else is at work and they're not" She says.
"Ok, I'll be back as soon as I can, I promise" I say and hang up.
"Is everything ok Mr Radford?" Marcus asks.
"Yeah, erm, I've got to get another teacher to take over this class for me, my wife is in labour" I tell the class.
"What's labour?" Millie asks.
