"I'll be right back, okay?" Tris said, standing up from the bed. The absence of the blankets made her feel cold, but she had to find him.
"Sure," Christina said.
Tris got up and walked to the dark oak door, opened it slowly and left the dorm.
Once outside, Tris peered around for Four but she couldn't see him. She stood in the doorway for a moment. The hallway was dark, only candelabras lighting the way. There was something with this school and candelabras, the lights littered the place. The fire flickered as quickly as flies wings in the wind. Tris thought about flying, it seemed amazing to her that birds could fly with so little effort, and seemed so unfair that humans could not.
Down the hallway, Tris could hear a rustling, drawing her out of her train of thought. She looked up, and saw Four staring at her through the darkness. He walked towards her, confidence in his stride.
"Hello." He said.
"Urm, hi?" Tris replied.
Four looked down at his feet, and bit his lip. She looked at his dirty blonde hair, swirling around his crown, the way it twisted in various directions. She came out of her haze, to see Four staring again.
"What?" She asked, "Do I have food around my mouth or something?"
"No, it's just that you do that a lot," Four said.
"Do what?" Tris asked, her curiosity sparking to life.
"Loose yourself in thought." Four answered, shrugging.
"You've known me all of ten minutes, you don't know what I do a lot." Tris said, although she could feel the burn in her cheeks.
"I did see you staring at those lights earlier, I'm not completely oblivious." He scoffed. Four looked at her, the corners of his mouth turning up into a smirk. His eyes searched her face, starting with her eyes, down her nose and stopping at her mouth.
"You better get back to your friends. I'll see you tomorrow." Four said, his eyes finding hers again.
"Yeah, I probably should." Tris said, half turning toward the door.
"Hold on a second?"
Tris turned back around to see his face, smiling at her, almost giggling. "I didn't catch your name." He said.
"Tris." She smiled back.
"Tris." Four said, she liked the way he pronounced her name. "I like it. Goodnight, Tris."
And with that, Four stalked down another dark corridor, swaying from side to side slightly. Tris stared after him, what had just happened?
Tris opened the door, and went to go get ready for a decent nights sleep.
--------------------------
Tris woke to the sound of Christina singing quietly. Tris thought she had a very sweet voice, even if she was singing Bon Jovi's 'Dead Or Alive'.
She started to smile, and immediately stopped when she felt the sheets scratching against her skin again.
Tris grabbed a towel, a change of clothes and her shampoo. Finding the showers shouldn't be too difficult, she thought. The shower room was in a room attached to this one, she only had to walk through an arch to get to it.
The showers were simple white tiled cubicles, shelves lining a wall and a door that locked. Tris stepped into her cubicle, hung up her things on a shelf, took off her pyjamas and switched on the shower.
She stood in the shower a while, her thoughts clouding her mind steak on a mirror. She thought about Four and her conversation with him and the rest and her parents and the school and the test. She only stopped when her hEad began to pound.
Tris finished showering, got dressed and began to dry off her hair.
She walked out of the shower room, and into the dorm to see Christina sitting on her bed. Tris walked over her.
She watched her for a second. "Are you alright?" She asked.
"Yeah, I-I-I' m just n-n-nervous," Christina stuttered.
"It's that test thing today big test today, isn't it?" Tris said, calmly.
"How can you be so casual about it? I've been studying for weeks." Christina wailed.
"I didn't want to come to school here, so I just left it, anyway they will put you somewhere, so just try not to worry about it." Tris joined Christina on the bed.
"I guess you're right," Christina said, and smiled.
The door swung open, and Four walked in. "It's time to sort you into your houses." Four looked straight past Tris.
"Everybody listen up, as you're new here, you probably won't find the hall. So, follow me please."
His eyes searched the whole room, and stopped when he looked to his side and saw Tris. His whole face seemed to light up, as if he were stood by a bonfire.
"Hi," he said, before opening the door and leading everyone to the test room.
---------------------------------------
The test room was a huge white hall full of wooden double desks and wooden chairs lined up in three long columns. Tris looked around, picking a desk to sit at, when she saw name tags had been placed. Clearly she would be sat next to Caleb. Tris peered over at Caleb, who had found his seat, she walked over and sat down.
"Hey Beatrice! Good luck in your test." Caleb said, cheerfully.
"Thanks Caleb, you too." Tris replied.
When every student had found their seat, a blonde woman stood proudly at the top of the room and spoke.
"Hello applicants of 2014, I am Miss Matthews, and I will be watching over you whilst you do your test." She said.
Watching over us, Tris thought, was a tad creepy. Maybe that was Miss Matthews, creepy. Tris had to admit, she looked odd, pale blonde hair cut to her jaw line, piercing dark brown eyes cutting into you with each glare.
The tests were passed down each row. When Tris got hers, she quickly scribbled down her name. Her handwriting was so scruffy, a dog could probably write better.
"There will be no talking in the test. You have an hour and a half. Go." Miss Matthews said.
And with that, Tris opened the paper and began the test.
