"Five minutes left, applicants." Miss Matthews said sternly. Tris watched her as she paced from one side of the room to the other, her heels clicking with each step.
Tris stared down at her paper. Five minutes. She had completed the whole of the booklet, and was now on the question. It read: 'What house would you put yourself in if you had the choice?'
Then there was a large dotted line, obviously intended for an answer. Tris didn't know where she would put herself. She glanced down at Calebs' paper. He had written 'Erudite' neatest handwriting.
From reading her handbook, Tris knew that there were five houses. Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. The names were easy to remember, yes, but the decision remained - staring at her in the face.
The clock ticked, and the longer it took for her to think of an answer, the louder the ticking seemed to become.
"Time's up. Please close your booklets and go back to your dorm. We will call you back in one hour when you shall be placed in houses." Miss Matthews said.
Tris stood up. She hadn't written a house, so she would be placed where ever there were free spot. Out of the corner of her eye, Tris saw a figure waving, she turned her head and spotted Four. He walked over to her.
"Hey, how'd it go?" He asked.
"Not so good, you know when you took it, what house did you write down for the last question?" Tris said.
"I left it blank," Four replied.
"So what house are you in?" Tris questioned.
"Dauntless, but why do you ask?" he said.
"Because I left it blank too," said Tris.
Four smiled a half smile, almost a smirk. He looked at her as if he had never looked at her before. He opened his mouth as if to speak, then closed it again.
"What?" Tris asked curiously.
"I am going to take you out sometime." Four spluttered.
"No." Tris said, shrugging her shoulders.
Fours' face dropped. His eyebrows drew together in confusion.
"Why, may I ask?" He asked.
"Do I look like the sort of girl who would just go out with a guy she doesn't know? You know what? Don't answer that. Because I'm not." With that, Tris turned around and walked back to the hall to collect her things before finding out what house she would be in.

"Hey!" Christina shouted at Tris.
Tris looked and saw Christina beside a suitcase. Her bed was stripped and she looked mad. She stared at Tris through furrowed brows.
"Where do you go? I thought we could have packed together! It doesn't matter now anyway but ..." Christina said.
"Sorry Christina, I'm just feeling the nerves right now, so I went for a walk to clear head." Tris lied.
"Oh. Okay, urm I could help you pack?" Christina offered.
"It's okay, but thank you." Tris said.
"No matter." Christina said. "I'm going to the computer rooms any way."
After Tris looked at her for a second Christina added, "To study."
Tris glanced after her, Christina must be sick of her already. Tris grabbed her iPod, put her earbuds in and began to play a Pink Floyd album. Then thought, there's no time to loose, so grabbed her few belongings and began to pack.

"William Teale." Will stood up, "You are in Dauntless." Miss Matthews said. Will walked over to the other students who were now in Dauntless.
Tris bit her lip. There were ten people left to be told where they were placed. Caleb, Christina, a boy named Al, Tris, and some others Tris did not know yet. It seemed strange to Tris that she did not know these people, but she would spend the rest of her teenage years with them.
"Caleb Prior." Miss Matthews said, "You've been placed in Erudite."
Tris heard Caleb's breath catch. He had got his chosen house. How lucky. Caleb grinned wider than he ever had, and walked to the Erudite house.
"Beatrice Prior." Miss Matthews said, her eyes scanning across and along the names list. "You are in the Dauntless house."
There must have been a spot free, thought, smirking. Tris walked over to the Dauntless members, the group she was now a part of.
The next seven people were sorted into their houses, and alone stood Christina. She looked do nervous. She stood, her forehead shining with sweat, her hair sticking to her temples. After what seemed an eternity, Miss Matthews spoke.
"Christina Webber. The last one." Tris saw Christina swallow hard. "You're in Dauntless." Miss Matthews announced, smiling icily.
Christina breathed hard, and let out a sigh and joined Tris and the other Dauntless members.
"Congratulations on your new houses. A representative from each house will take you to your sector." Miss Matthews spoke out.
Tris, along with a few others gazed at her with confusion. "Each house has a separate building to live in, a sector." Miss Matthews said.
As she finished speaking, all the representatives came out from a door Tris hadn't noticed.
There were three boys and two girls. The girls both had long brown hair tied back in braids and secure with hair pins and were both rather short. One boy had firery ginger hair, freckled skin, his uniform immaculate. Another boy had brown skin, black hair and was wearing a bow tie instead of a long one.
Tris looked at the last boy. Of course, she thought. The last boy was Four.
Four stood in line with pride. His hands were behind his back, and his head slightly arched toward the ceiling. His eyes flickered toward Tris, and he did a half smile.
"Representatives, please take your groups to your sector and help them settle in. Classes begin at 8 am tomorrow. Good luck." Miss Matthews said, before stalking out of the room.
Four walked toward the Dauntless group. He looked from one side to the other, slowly, observing.
"I am Four. I am your Dauntless representative." Four said, moving his hands dramatically as he spoke. "If you'll all follow me please."
The new Dauntless members followed Four through countless doorways and halls until they came face to face with the Dauntless sector.
