The Valley of the Portal 

Prologue 

The Powerful Legendary

The breeze was soft and fresh and the couple just stopped to get some rest under huge shade of samauma¹. They drank water and opened a map to try to get the right direction inside the forest. The small compass was leading the long way that probably will be finished at Victoria-Regia Lake. It was a lost paradise inside the rain forest and the young pathfinder of myths was looking forward to find the place where, considering the legend, the moon named Jaci had turn the little Indian into a starfish.  

"Are you sure we are in the right path, aren't you?"  

"Of course. It's the only way to move forward."  

The girl looked around to find some traces that can prove your suspects. The guy has seemed a little bit boring.  

"I really don't know how I could leave you convince me to come over here. This is a kind of insanity and we are going to be in trouble. You know what? This forest is probably full of wild and dangerous animals." 

She laughed at him because of his worries e didn't seem share the same feeling or fear about it. 

"Believe me. These legends and their characters are real. There are many evidences to believe that they can be more than just part of our imagination. They were born from popular Brazilian beliefs and while their legends can keep alive, they will be as well." 

"I am not getting ready to see anyone of them in front of me yet. What are they in fact? Ghosts? Optical illusion?" 

"It depends on legend. Some of them are closer of what we see in the books. Others can be more like ghosts, but I've heard something about this one who we are looking for. People said he is almost human."

"I don't know if I want to see this creature in person."  

"Don't be a coward. They can be controlled by mind through the power of people's belief. If you don't give them power enough to act or to develop their skills so they will be just a beautiful image in front of you."

(1.SAMAUMA is a very leafy tree, considered holy by Mayan's people who used to live in the forests) 

"What does that mean?" 

"It means that we can control them with our thoughts. If we think they are dangerous so they will be, but if we think about them like sweet and gentle creatures, so they will never be more than that."  

The guy nodded and felt so much disheartened. He started to think his friend was a kind of obsessive about folkloric stories and he regretted to be over there with her. They started walk again and the young lady talked to him about the foundation of legends from ancient times to now. 

"Ok. So, if I understood everything that you said, the little Indian got married to Curupira2 after she had turned into a victoria-regia? But, how have she done that if she wasn't a woman anymore?"  

"She wasn't a woman just in this real world. She was sent to live in parallel world where there are a lot of myths and other legends."

"They got married, had children and a happy ending in the imagination world? Jesus Christ, this is nonsense and absurd. I should be too much drunk when decided to keep you company. 

The young lady's friend was getting annoyed at her ridiculous point of view. At first sight all this seemed just exciting, but now it sounds like a foolish think. He should be a crazy guy." 

He was close to ask her to come back to camp before the nightfall and they get lost in the forest when she cried in completely contentment. He reached her immediately and both of them were in front of the most perfect place of the world.
