Be Jake:

I'm 8 now. Just ending my second grade year. It's finally summer break!

I have a little sister on the way. Momma says it's my real dad's baby. I was confused when she said that. Dad doesn't live with us. We'd just moved into my aunt's house 2 months ago. It's close to my school, so I walk to school now.

I walk home, my only friend and I walk together since she lives down the block from my aunt.

"How was your day Jake?" She asks me.

"Great! No one wanted to hurt me today! How was yours Janey?" I asked her.

She smiles, "mine was good, my aunt is going to have a baby soon. Finally I won't be my Nana's only grandchild!" She fist bumps the air. I chuckle a bit.

"My mother is having a baby soon as well! I'm going to have a little sister! A sister Janey! Can you believe it!?" I say very peppily.

"That's great news Jake!" She says with a giggle.

I get to my aunt's house. I hug Jane then say my goodbyes and enter my house.

"I'm home Momma!" I shout as I enter.

My aunt greets me. Then says, "be quieter. Your Mother is trying to sleep." I nod and sit on the couch. Turning on my favorite show, lowering the volume.

After dinner and my usual bath, I lay down in my bed. Momma comes in to say goodnight.

"Hi Momma," I say as she enters.

"Hi Jakey," she says to me. Sitting on the edge of my bed. She plays with her hand in my hair.

"Momma, am I really going to have a sister?" I ask her, staring into her eyes. Her eyes are like mine, but duller.

"Yes. You're going to have a little sister. Are you excited?" She asks me.

"I'm very excited!" I say with a big smile.

"I am too, Jake. " she says with a small grin.

"What's her name?" I ask her questionably.

"That's up to your father." Momma speaks quieter. I hug her tightly.

"Momma, I don't want to live with dad again. He hurt you, I want you, me, and my sister to live here with aunt Calliope."

"Dad wants your sister and I to be at his house soon. You're coming whether you and him like it or not. I'm sorry Jake, but I have to move back in with dad. No matter how much we both hate it." She pulls me in close, stroking my hair.

"But what if he hurts you? What if he tries killing me again?" I speak with fear, trembling in my words. I grab my pillow, squeezing it tightly. Stress running through my young boyish blood.

"I won't let him hurt you, Jake. I promise that. I won't ever let him hurt you, not for as long as I live."
