First days of the new year (High School)

Kenzie's POV

I get up at my stop with Lauren and we walk off the bus and go inside my house. I looked back at the bus and saw Johnny just sitting there confused and I smiled back at him and waved. We go inside and walk directly to the kitchen.

"Oh hey Jacob" I say as i see him talking with Maddie

"Hi" he says back awkwardly. I've never known Jacob to be awkward. He was always confident.

"Well we're gonna get some food and then go upstairs" I say to Maddie

"Ok Have fun"

I grab the bag of cheeto puffs and then two cokes from the fridge and Laur follows me upstairs.

I close my door and she says "That was awkward as hell"

"Yeah no kidding. I knew that they were gonna talk afterschool, but i didn't think it would be here"

"Yeah" She says and she gets sad. I know exactly who she is thinking about.

"No don't think about that loser"

"Kenz it's hard"

"No just don't think about him"

"It's kind of hard when he literally broke up with me like 30 minutes ago"

"Ay, more like 45" I say trying to joke and she laughs a little

"But he broke up with me for another girl. Who could it possibly be?"

"Don't think about that. You just need to think about how your life could benefit from this"

"I don't see how it would"

"You wouldn't be hiding anything from Johnny"

"But Hayden is his best friend, he is over all the time"

"You can come over here if he is there, OK?"

"Ok, Are you still gonna be friends with him"

"Hell no."

"Why not? I don't want this to ruin your friendship too"

"You are my best friend Laur. I'm not gonna be friends with your ex"

"Thanks i guess Kenz"

"Another Advantage, You can scope out the cute guys again" I say and she laughs, "Hey what it's true. When you're not dating anyone, you are aloud to find multiple cute guys."

"Your crazy"

"Thank you, so are there any guys that you might happen to ask to the semi-formal"

"Why would I ask?"

"It's girls ask guys and it's in 3 weeks"

"Wait really?"

"Yea, so tell me who you are gonna ask"

"I dont know. Theres this one guy in a couple of my classes and he's really sweet and cute"

"Whats his name?"

"Tony"

"Wait really?"

"yea"

"He's so sweet! You guys would be so perfect together" I see her smile a little. I know him from dance. he's an amazing dancer, but he broke his ankle so he hasn't come to dance in like 4 months. But he's gonna be at the classes starting tomorrow. 

"I think I know who you are gonna ask" She says

"You don't mind do you?"

"Of course not Kenz! Why would I care?"

"Um.. He's your brother"

"I don't care. You guys are so cute together! When are you gonna ask him?"

"I don't know. Sometime next week. You better not tell him"

"I wont, I promise"

Maddie's POV

"So how have you been" I ask

"Good. How about you?"

"Great actually. My sister and her friends are awesome"

"They look like fun"

"Yea"

"Listen, I'm not like i used to be"

"I know"

"Huh? But yesterday -?"

"Someone I'm very close with told me about you and the last few weeks"

"What do you mean?"

"I know your not friends with all those people anymore. I know you've changed. I know you have been wearing that bracelet everyday for the last 2 years."

"Oh, yeah this" He says and shows the bracelet

"yeah that."

"I still want to be with you"

"It can't just go back to the way it was before"

"But you said earlier. You still love me too"

"I know..."

"Were you lying"

"No, No i wasn't. It's just. I don't want us to be how we were before"

"What do you mean?"

"I don't want to be mean"

"I'm not like that anymore"

"I don't want to abandon my sister"

"ok"

"I dont want to put it in everyones faces that we're dating"

"Ok"

"Do you understand"

"Yes, I understand Mads. I'll do anything to be with you again"
