The paramedics rush in and the school goes in lockdown. Harper is lifted onto a stretcher and Jona is told to go with.
Jona's POV
Harper's pale skin almost illuminates under the lights in the ambulance, making her look lifeless and cold. The paramedic hooks her up to some equipment and the sirens start blaring as we hurry to the ER. I reach down and grab hold of her hand. Why did this have to happen? Why couldn't I have gotten there quicker? This is all my fault. The ambulance hits a bump in the road and shakes me out of my thoughts. We are at the hospital and they start opening the doors and pulling out Harper's stretcher. They lead the. Way to the operation room to hook her up to the machines. And I get pulled to a different room. Now I have to wait
My wrist is broken from punching that jock. And my chest is bruised. Besides that. I'm fine. I'm allowed to leave my room and I go to find Harper. The paper in her room says 3 of her ribs are bruised, and she has a concussion. And I'm left thinking it's all my fault. The doctor walks over to me and she starts talking, but it's all a haze and I can only here a few words. Might be out for a while...it could have been worse...it's still bad...you can go see her though. I look up and slowly start walking to her bedside and pick up her hand. I give it a kiss and push her blonde hair behind her ear out of her face. She's still sleeping. I look at the bruise forming on her cheek bone and on her eye. She's still beautiful with black and blue marks on her face. Out of no where, her hand shakes in my grip and her eyes open gradually. I have never wanted to see her eyes more. She looks back and forth til her gaze landed on mine.
"Wh-what happened?" Her voice was raspy and weak.
"We can talk about that later. Are you okay, love? I was so worried about you." She looks down at her arm. All the chords hooked up to machines. She seems so confused.
"I think I'm okay. My chest hurts a lot and my cheek is sore. What happened?" She's so concerned. She really has no idea what happened to her, does she?
As soon as I open my mouth to answer her question, the nurse walks in with a tray. Two plates and some juice and five dollars. She sets it down on the table next to Harper and hands me the money and tells me to get something in the vending machines. And just like that she walks away. What's gonna happen when she comes back?
