POV Raina
I was sitting in my room reading when I heard the call of Madame Darling over the intercom that runs through the whole orphanage. She was calling for me once again. I let out a breath as I get up to respond back to her, using the little black button that each room as.
"Coming Madame Darling!" I call through the bedroom intercom. After replying I quickly walk out the door. My walk to Madame Darling's office is a semi-long walk. I think of the walk as short but other people don't seem to think so. The walk is long enough for you to get lost in your thoughts but not long enough where you can finish your thought process. During my walk to her office this time I think about how no one here talks to me but I always seem to be the one everyone is looking at or looking for. I had talked to Madame Darling about it and she told me that everyone looked at me or for me was because I was important. I had rolled my eyes at her and left her office after that. Every time after that whenever I went to her office, which was often, she would always say that I'm "important" or that one day I would be "queen of the fairies." Every time she said something like that I told her to stop living in her fantasy world and that I would never be important or a fairy queen. The thing is that I'm not important, nor will I ever be. No one cares about me and no one will ever care about me.
Before I could think about anything else I had realized that I had reached Madame Darling's door, I let out a breath as I knock. In response, I hear a faint, "Come in, dear." So, I open the door and walk in, to see Madame Darling standing up with a boy. Madame Darling is facing me with a smile on her lips. I give a forced smile back and look back to the boy, who still had his back to me. From the back, I could tell that he looks around my age and that he has blonde hair. I take a step closer to them and close the door causing the boy to look at me with his bright blue eyes. I continue to study him from where I stand by the door and I notice that he has a forced smile on his lips, but that doesn't stop my girly thoughts from creeping in. I look back over at Madame Darling when she waves for me to walk closer to them. As I do she starts to introduce the boy.
"Raina, dear, meet Warner," he extends out his hand, and I place my hand in his, as he tightens his grip on my hand I notice that his hands are really soft. I'm brought out of my girlish thoughts as Madame Darling continues, "He has just been transferred from another adoption home, and I'm sure both of you will be great friends!"
I cringe as she says "adoption home" and "great friends." I just wish she would just stop saying adoption home when we both know that the teens will never be adopted and I also wished that she would stop telling me that every new kid that showed up here would become a great friend because I know we won't. The second they get a chance to ditch me they do, they don't even hesitate.
"Somehow I doubt that because you said that about every other kid who has shown up here," I pointedly tell her.
"I'm sure this time will be different, so cheer up and have a little bit of hope!" She tells me pushing Warner and me out the door, "Could you please show him around, I have something I have to attend to. Here's his room number dear."
"Sure," I state plainly with a frown.
"Thank you, dear!" she says closing the door with a cheerful smile on her face.
I sigh and drop my shoulders. I look at the room number and I notice that it is down the hall from my room, just great. I start to walk off and notice that I don't hear footsteps following me. I look back at the Warner kid to see that he isn't following me, but looking at Madame Darling's door, looking lost. I let out a breath and walk back to him, I plaster a small smile on my face as I poke his shoulder. He jumps as he looks over at me, "What?"
I roll my eyes and start to turn back around, "She won't let you back in there, so you know. You've gotten nothing better to do so, come on follow me."
He slowly picks up his bag as I start to walk away.
