I was sitting alone at lunch, my only friends weren't here for the day. They were both off 'sick'. Yeah right. I was stuck eating alone.

It was an okay sandwich I was digging into, ham and cheese, with lettuce, specially added for me. I went to take a huge bite out of it, I'm not one of those girls who barely eat anything in front of anyone, but I heard a cough from in front of me.

I looked up and say Carter Johnston, grinning nervously at me.

"How's it going, Brooklyn?" He asked me politely.

I barely looked up, continuing to eat my sandwich. "It's fine."

"May I sit down?"

"Go nuts."

Carter pulled out the chair across from me and thumped down into it. He looked down, fiddling with his hands a little. I heard a shout from across the room saying, "Carter, hurry up! Do it!"

What was he doing?

Carter looked up at me, and I looked slowly towards him.

"Hey....so...I-uh-I-ah-uh-I wanted to know what you were doing this Friday?" He asked me nervously.

I was startled and put my sandwich back on the table, half eaten. "Nothing.....why?" I asked sceptically.

"I-uh-i wanted to know if you'd like to go out for dinner and a movie this Friday?"

Did this boy just ask me out? I mean he's pretty cute, but I don't think he's my type. Then again, I haven't had a true boyfriend before.

Uh, what do I say? I don't wanna break the boys heart, by saying no. I mean, one date isn't going to hurt, right?

"Sure, I'd love to." I flicked my hair back flirtatiously, and smiled at him.

"Aww, cool. So I'll pick you up at 7, does that sound good?" He asked.

"Sounds great."

"See you then." And then he walked away, but not before giving me a devious looking smile. But it looked playful. I don't think he realised I noticed either.

And of course I couldn't help thinking the same thing would easily happen again.

This time round there weren't others cheering him on, and making him hurry up. But there was the cheeky little grin.

There were some huge differences and not a lot of similarities, but I guess I'm a pessimist and not an optimist.

For one, Austin technically didn't ask me out, he asked us out. Two, there was no movie, unlike last time. Three, well I wasn't eating food. I wanted to though, I was hungry. And I was about to.

Austin drove us to a little cafe, not far from where I live. It looked familiar, even though I was sure I'd never been there before.

He told us to go inside and find a table, while he paid for the parking ticket. That's the problem with Jacksonville. Everything costs ya your money's worth.

It wasn't long after Austin came into the cafe, a place called You've Been Served. I watched as his eyes scanned the room, looking for us. And when he noticed us in the far corner of the room, I saw that grin again.

He plopped down on one side of the booth, the side we weren't sitting on.

"So, figured out what we're gonna have to eat yet?"

"Yep."

"Yep."

"Yep."

"Well then, let's get this show on the road."
