I sat there, at the lights, slowly waiting for them to go green. I only had one trick up my sleeve, that might've given me a small head start against Austin. Now, there's no real prize, per say, but there is bragging right, and I mean if I somehow won this race, Austins reputation would go right down the toilet.I peered over at Austin and saw him intently watching, waiting for the lights to change. I, instead watched the lights that were for the road crossing our paths. There was a secret trick, not many people knew about. When those lights turn red, there's a three second wait before our lights would.
It's possible to get disqualified from the race, if you crossed the 'starting line' before the light changed. I wasn't planning on doing that, that's illegal anyway. I knew my old little mustang had a terrible acceleration, so I backed up a little. The cat behind me, only allowed me a small bit of moving room. It couldn't be too sure if I was leaving or whatnot.
I turned my head back to look at the opposite lights, just as they turned yellow. A few seconds later at their light was red. I revved the engine and put the old thing into first, slamming my foot down on the accelerator. The car leaped forwards, screaming at me. Yikes, it wasn't used to such a quick start. I pass the starting line just as the light is green.
Looking back and across at the line, i still see Austins car waiting. I look into his windscreen and see his mouth hanging open. Then he snaps out of it and speeds forwards. There's a good 10 metres between us, but if I'm not careful, he can easily cover that distance.
I speed up a little, and put the car into third gear. He's slowly gaining behind me, right up until the cars and side by side. I slam my foot harder onto the the accelerator and put it into fourth. The highest this things able to go. That's okay though, because I lied earlier. I have one more trick up my sleeve.
I slowly down just a tad, and pulled my car closer to the right of Austins. That kid loves his paint job so much he pulled away from me, towards the side of the road. I keep moving, and he follows my movement. Soon, he's right on the white line, and I'm straddling the two lanes.
I pull my steering wheel sharply to the left and then quickly back to the right, so I'm now more head on to Austins side. The finish line is coming up, and i almost slammed into his car. Luckily, just like I thought he would, he steered away from me. And right into a light post.
His red Jeep slammed into it, spinning around a few times, before coming to a stop in a ditch. The whole front of the car, was majorly dented inwards. That was gonna take a lot of work and money to fix.
I drove off, just as Austin and his 'oh so lovely' girlfriend hopped out the car. They looked furious.
Laughing to myself, I manually rolled down the window, and flipped them off. What good fun that was. Oh and technically I won too, considering they never crossed the line. But I knew I wasn't going to hear they end of this tomorrow at school, and honestly I couldn't really care less.
