Circumstances

 Kara's POV

I gasped as I heard a familiar voice. I knew we were meeting someone, I didn't know it was Xavier.

"Xavier?"

His smile lit across his face as he held out his arms. On instinct, I ran into the arms of

another man that I considered to be my brother. Shelby stood a few feet away rolling her eyes

"Hello Shelby, still angry I see."

"Why not, you said you would come back."

"I did say that didn't I. I've been busy."

Xavier released me and I smiled up into his brown eyes. I sighed as I looked over to the car as Maxim was helping Amy out.

Maxim stopped in mid motion of extracting Amy from the car. Straightening he stared over his shoulder at his wife's reaction.

"You know my wife?"

"Yes, we met a year ago,"

Maxim felt himself tense up. He wasn't happy that Xavier was holding Kara in his arms. Turning back to the car he helped Amy out. Her mumbling under her breath did not help Maxim, as he felt a pang of jealousy rise in his gut. He wanted to tear into Xavier.

"my, my, my... isn't this cozy."

"Shut it Amy."

"why should I? I'm just stating the obvious. she has a lot of nerve letting another man hold her like that. You can't tell me they are just friends. If I was your wife I would..."

"Amy!"

"Alright I will keep quiet. I was just saying.'

Maxim turned and stared coldly at Amy.

"Don't think for one minute, that I don't know what you are trying to do."

"I'm not doing anything really."

Maxim nodded to Xavier for him to let Kara go. As he lowered her to the ground. Maxim saw uncertainty run across Kara face as she watched him. Walking back to Maxim Kara stood by his side. She could feel the tension building between them, Xavier notice it too.

"Maxim, I am Xavier. If we could take things inside."

Maxim nodded to Klaus as he proceeded to lead the small group to the door of the cabin. Pulling Kara to his side he whispered.

"I did not know you knew Xavier or any of the other panther clans."

"I met Xavier when I was on the run, besides you never asked."

Maxim nodded and kept a tight hold on Kara as they entered the cabin.

Kara's POV

I didn't have the heart to look Maxim in the eye as I told him I had met Xavier when I was on the run. Nothing I said was untrue. Maxim never asked every time he caught up with me so I never volunteered any info on why I ran or who I entered while I ran. We entered the cabin and I looked around. It was cozy too cozy. Amy stood off to the side glaring occasionally at me or Shelby. Klaus walked passed me and patted me on the shoulder. I felt like he was my only ally apart from Xavier and Shelby. I knew there was something between Maxim and I, but I knew he was uncomfortable with this situation. I wondered why we were here.

Klaus went through a door I assumed was the kitchen and came back with a tray of refreshments. I knew he couldn't have made those things himself and looked over the items on the tray. My mouth watered as I didn't have a chance to get a bite to eat at the center today.

Maxim's velvet voice flowed into my ear making me shiver.

"Are you hungry Kara?"

'it was a loaded question and I chose not to answer. I just reached for a pastry on the tray and bit into it. the vanilla cream filled my mouth, I felt every eye in the room on me and stared back openly at each one of them. Shelby broke the silence as she laughed out loud.

"It looks like Kara needs to feed."

The food I began to swallow felt like it was stuck in my throat as I forced it down. My glare only cause Shelby to laugh harder. I didn't find the situation or the statement funny. Of course, I was hungry. I hadn't eaten. Shelby could be so immature some times. I know that barb about me needing to feed was said for Maxim's benefit. Did I think Maxim would act on it? You could bet money on it, that he would. His arm around my waist no longer held me in place as he released me.

Maxim's POV

"I invited you and your sister here so we can put this incident behind us."

Xavier nodded his head as he took a seat opposite from us. Shelby stood off to the right behind him.

"if you don't mind Maxim, I would like to speak first."

Maxim nodded. "You have the floor."

"No disrespect to you Mrs. Russell, but I would like to know what exactly was said by Shelby to cause you two to come to blows."

"It's simple, she disrespected my clan."

"I was only stating what the other clans can see. Tell her Xavier."

"Silence Shelby."

"Please relay what she said."

Amy stared at the man sitting cross from her and felt a jar go through her body. Lifting her chin, she looked over his head at his sister and spoke the words through clenched teeth.

"She said that we were kittens."

"Meow voiced Shelby and Xavier's voiced boomed inside the cabin.

"Shelby."

The tone of his voice made Amy blink rapidly.

"Go on."

"I asked her to take back what she said, she said she wouldn't so, we handled it. We fought end of story."

Xavier smile did not reach his eyes as he watched the woman sitting before him. Word had it that she was an alpha female of Maxim's tribe. He was also aware that she was unattached. A deadly combination. He wondered how long ago it was that her husband had died.

"I see said Xavier. "So, the solution or let me rephrase that, your solution was to break seven of her ribs."

"To be honest yes. I asked politely, but she was very arrogant."

Xavier nodded as he knew what Amy had said was true.

Maxim cleared his throat.

"Could we hear your sister's take on the events?"

Amy felt her patience come to an end. "I just gave an account of what happened. Why relive the past. I would like to offer my sincere apologies to your sister. I should have had more control as an alpha of my clan. Again, I truly wish I could take back my actions and what I had done."

All eyes turned in Amy's direction and she looked openly into Xavier's eyes. Shelby smirked and I knew this thing between her and Amy was not over. Although both were there to apologize. It was highly unlikely that any of their words held conviction.
