Maxim came through the door of his bedroom to find Kara naked and enraged. He could tell that she was in the middle of a waking dream. She was reliving something from the past. Although his wife was beautiful, this was a possible insight as to why she doesn't like the alpha side of her personality. He could hear Klaus through the door.
"Maxim! Is everything alright?"
"Don't open the door. I can handle this."
"Maxim"
"Move away from the door Randolph. I will be fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Klaus!"
Kara's growl vibrated throughout the room before she lunged in Maxim's direction. Maxim dove out of the way as he rolled over and stood beside the edge of the bed. He prepared himself for another attack. He stood watching Kara swipe at the air. Her strength raking deep groves I the wood with her nails."
"I hate you" she cried in a child's voice. She was my sister"
So, Kara had a sister he thought. He hadn't remembered any mention of a sibling at the bonding ceremony.
"I will never be like you!"
Kara's dream had her tearing into the alpha that held her sister's lifeless body. Her small body's strength had increases as rage tore through her mind. The small child that was Kara, experienced what was called the blood lust. She ran without hesitation into the figure that held Cheryl. She swung out with her nails as she roared. The woman creature that held Cheryl stood with her arms open wide. There was no defense as the small alpha female nails and teeth tore into flesh. Her mind was set. Kill. Blood splattered across the old barn as she heard the adults coming. Her child mind at the time could not distinguish who was friend or foe.
When the door wrenched, open Kara was still tearing at the alpha's lifeless body. She snarled at the others before she leaped across the room to protect her sister. Soft words brought her out of the dream and back to the present.
"It's alright Kara, she can't hurt you. Kara look at me."
Maxim watched as the dullness of the dream faded from Kara's eyes. Tears welled up in her auburn iris and slowly ran down her cheeks as she slunk slowly to her knees.
"Kara, are you alright?"
I raised my tear-filled eyes and looked at Maxim
"No" I whispered. "I don't want this Maxim. I don't want to be an alpha."
Maxim did not approach me. I didn't know if he was sure what to do. His wife had just told him she didn't want to be an alpha. His question threw me.
"Why? Tell me why you don't want to be an alpha Kara? What is so bad about it?"
I didn't want to relive the past, but what choice did I have. I was born this way. All emotion had left my voice as I spoke. I didn't even feel when Maxim pulled the blanket around my naked shoulders. He had crossed the room and sat with his back to the door. Gently he lifted me into his lap.
"Tell me he whispered into my ear. I found that a part of me wanted to tell him. The part of me that always took flight wanted to tell him so I did.
"I wasn't always an only child or even an alpha until."
"Go on" he coaxed.
I heaved a sigh and closed my eyes. I laid my head back against his shoulder as I spoke.
"I had a sister once. She loved me so much and of course I loved her. Families of our clan indulge those who they think are alphas. So, I guess my parents spoiled us both. Cheryl was more daring than I and I followed her blindly. We would sneak out on certain nights being nosy and full of curiosity."
