Hi everyone sorry for the delay, here is the next  chapter in the series.

Kara's POV

My body always seems to react to Maxim. I was dirty, sweaty and wanted to just go home. I wanted to go home to a home that I constantly escaped from. I was a walking contradiction. I did what any wife would do. I walked into Maxim's arms. Strong and sure arms that held me right before moments of flight. All the doors of the trucks were open. I pulled myself from his embrace and searched the cabin of each. I weaved my way through numerous faces of women and children. A feeling of dread came over me as among the faces, none of them belonged to Emerald.

"Emerald? Where could she be?"

I turned worriedly to Maxim and considered his grey eyes.

"We will find her."

Anger rose swift and deadly in me. I wanted to strike out. I wanted to rip the trees from the ground. I wanted blood spilled because she was not among us. I took several deep breathes to calm the alpha in me.

"Take your wife and go Maxim. I can handle things from here. I will make sure the women of your tribe are returned to you. Lucas is waiting around the bend in the highway to assist me. Maxim nodded and took me by the hand. We walked to the car in silence. Driving away leaving a scene of more than a hundred women and children standing around.

Highway

Marco had not received word from the others as he checked his watch again. The trucks were ten minutes late for meeting at the rendezvous point in Kansas. He didn't think twice as he sent the money transfer into the bank account the viper had given him. The hot sun beat a scorching path heat on the asphalt. He wanted to severe all connections that his brother and his people had to her. It took a child to remind him that his people had done wrong.

"The viper is not a nice lady. Once you send her the money. She is going to hurt them."

"Hurt who? What is she talking about father hurt who?"

Emerald stared at Layla and spoke without emotion. "The two boys she has with her. She is going to kill them Franklin and Caleb.

Layla gasped and held her stomach.

"Father don't send the money."

"Emerald tiny voice was like an omen.

"It's what she does. She smoothers boys while they sleep."

Marco stared from his daughter to the child. Could he trust what the child had said? He had kept to himself that the viper had threatened Layla and her unborn child's life. Somehow Marco knew this child was right. He hoped by sending the money it would end any connection with the viper.

"I'm going to take you back to your clan."

Emerald's smile lit up her green eyes.

"I knew you would, my mommy will be so happy. She was angry that you took me. They are almost here now."

"She is right father. I placed a call to the panther-leader from the west."
"Why?"

""We needed women."

"True but we could have let nature take its course. There were other options."

All three turned and stared as several cars pulled up and doors flew open. Shelby hopped out first.

"Emerald."

"See I told you my mommy will be so happy."

Emerald bounded the small stares and flew into Shelby arms.
