This is an alternate ending to my Merman AU by request of @solangeloshipper (sorry it took me so long to finally see your comment). I suggest you read that chapter before coming back to this one.

Also, I lied about the prompt thing. That's probably not happening soon.

[context]

"Nico?" Will asked tentatively.

"Yes Will?"

"I like you. Not completely platonically. I want to be more than your friend." Will felt the words tumbling out before he could stop them. He looked up at his new friend, sad that Nico would probably want nothing to do with him.

Instead, Nico smiled. "I thought you'd never say that." They leaned closer to each other, closer and closer until...

"Nico! Where are you? We have to leave!" Bianca not-so-gracefully stumbled onto the beach, just catching a glimpse of yellow hair before it disappeared underwater.

[ending]

The next week, Will sat on the beach, as he had everyday since Nico left. He thought about their almost-kiss.

Will sighed for probably the millionth time that day. He missed Nico so much already.

Another month passed before Montauk beach got new visitors.

As they went to the cabin to unpack, Will raised his head above the water to see who it was.

Turns out it was just the regulars: Percy Jackson and his mom, Sally Jackson.

Percy had found Will before (he had to admit, he wasn't the best at hiding), so he went right to the water as soon as he was done in the cabin.

"Will? Where are you?" He walked nearer to the water's edge and Will, who was underwater, didn't bring his head up until he saw Percy's feet under the water.

Will smiled. "Hey Percy. How're you?"

Percy narrowed his eyes and sat down in the shallow water. "Don't try that with me. I know a fake smile when I see one. What's wrong?"

"Besides the fact that I'm always lonely?" Will sighed. "Well, to tell you the truth, I met a boy about a month ago. He was great, and I loved hanging out with him, but his sister made him leave. I'll probably never see him again."

Percy looked pensive. "Maybe I know him. What's his name?"

"Nico di Angelo."

Percy gasped. "I know him! And I know where he is! It's by the water, so you could swim there!"

"Really?" Will exclaimed. "You could show he where he is?"

"Yeah, and it's not far from here. You could swim there in, like, half an hour!" Percy looked like he got an idea. "My mom said I could rent a jet ski this trip! I'll go talk to her. Be right back!" He dashed off back to the cabin.

It was twenty minutes later when he came back to the beach, and Will had been frolicking in the water, wondering what he would say to Nico when he saw him again.

It was an engine that brought him out of the depths of his mind.

"Percy?" Will looked curiously at the figure on the back of a strange machine that floated on the water. The sun was in Will's eyes, so he couldn't really see against the glare.

Noticing this, he jetted around to the other side of Will, leaving the water churning in his wake.

Now that the sun was out of his eyes, Will could clearly see that it was, indeed, Percy.

"Hey, follow me and I'll take you to Nico." Percy didn't leave time for questions or explanations before he rode away again, knowing that Will could easily catch up with his powerful tail.

Will swam just below the surface, right up next to the machine. It was this way for a little while, before Percy began slowing down. Will didn't slow until the water was far too shallow far him to swim fast.

They had reached the shore of a beach, filled with people. Will was quick to duck further underwater, for fear of being seen.

There (<- 666th word) was a splash, and Percy was in the water, pointing Will to a more secluded area before resurfacing.

Will swam over to where Percy had pointed. You could only get there underwater, because there were thick branches blocking it.

After what felt like an eternity of sitting on a rock that jutted out from the water, a head of black hair came above the water. At first, Will thought it was Percy, but then he realized the hair was to long to be Percy's.

Slowly, tentatively, a face appeared. Nico di Angelo.

He lifted himself onto the rock next to Will and hung his head.

"I'm sorry I never went back," Nico started. "My sister died and I haven't had the ability to see you since."

Unsure of what to say, Will wrapped his arms around Nico, and they stayed that way for a long time.

A/N Honestly, I don't think I'll ever be able to have a regular update schedule. In my defense, I thought I'd had this chapter finished and updated weeks ago. I didn't. À plus tard.
