"Sometimes, rain washes out pain, sometimes it triggers painful memories."

<><><><><>

It was the month of monsoon. The rain was heavier this year compared to the last year, not that I was complaining because I love this weather.

The dark clouds that form the sky followed by the cool breeze indicating its time to pour down, hard. The pitter-patter sound heard on the glass window and the fresh smell of mud.

Whenever it rains, I smile. Sometimes, it reminds me of the harsh moments I try to forget every time, Nevertheless, it gives me happiness.

I close my eyes, looking up at the sky feeling the rain hitting my face when I felt someone's presence beside me making me turn to look at the person.

"Shraddha, what are you doing in this heavy rain? You will catch cold." My mother said, keeping a small bag on her head to escape from the pouring rain.

"You will catch late for college, come down will you?" She asked, while I nodded my head.

Today, is the day of my second year in B.com. Just one more year left for me to graduate and move of the place and also far away from the person and the memories.

Maybe, this year would be different. Maybe, this time I would be happier than the last time. Afterall, what's required in life other than happiness.

"Shraddha, you are not a small child to remind you to go for college. You are getting late. In the end, I won't make you skip breakfast." My mom shouted.

Shit. She is right. I can't afford to be late for my first day of class. I better hurry up.

~~~~
I folded the umbrella and put it in a shelf of the college building. I had no intentions of using an umbrella but I do not want to look like a mess on the first day of college.
People were cursing and rushing inside hurriedly making me roll my eyes at them. —Some people always have a problem with everything. When it rains they try to escape from it or when it's sunny they complain about the heat.
I turn around and try to look out for my one and only best friend.
I felt a pat on my shoulder and I turned to my right to see Alia looking and grinning at me.
"Missed you buddy." She said, giving me a warm hug. There she is. -My best friend. Unlike me, she is a social person and believes to enjoy her life to the fullest.
"You have grown a bit fat during the holidays." I said.
"What?" She asked shocked. She hates to be called as fat. I burst out laughing She glared at me first and then joined me in the laughter.
We looked at the schedules and went to our classroom. We took our seats at the back of the row.
The teacher entered our class. He was maybe in his mid 50's and had a bald head. "Morning class, myself Mr.Carter and I will be handling Business Studies this year and........."
"God, why does he have to start lecturing for the very first day. Why can't they let us free or why can't his car break and he just get struck with the rain.........." Alia muttered while I let out a laugh.
The class was disturbed by the sound of door knocking. There stood a tall boy looking inside the classroom.
"Siddharth, late at first day of the class." Carter muttered, glaring at him.
"It's the rain, sir. I don't want to catch cold getting wet in the rain, do I?" He asked, fake sneezing.
"Stop giving your dumb excuses.....this is the last time I am letting you in." He said. The boy entered the class and looked around finding for a seat.
His eyes found the only empty seat beside mine and walked towards me, smiling widely.
"Hello." He said, taking a seat and looked at me. I smiled and looked away.
"I am Siddharth, call me Sid......and you are." He said.
"Will you mind your own business." Alia spat which I found a little rude but kept my mouth shut, anyway.
He turned away but I could tell this boy won't stop.
I kept looking at the clock looking for some magic to happen by it striking to 9. After felt like an eternity the bell finally ranged.
"Alia, I am starving come let's go and grab something to eat." I said.
"I have some work. I need to go to the office." Alia replied.
"That's fine. I will manage." I said and made my way towards the cafeteria.
~~~~~~~~~

I took a cheese sandwich and a coke and was nearing towards a table when suddenly someone pushed me from behind so badly that my coke landed straight on the floor.

"Oops!" Someone said from behind.

"Can't you see where you are heading?" I turned and shouted at the boy who bumped into me who happens to me none other than, Siddharth.

"I am sorry. I will get you another one." He said.

But before I could argue he went to get the coke. I sighed again and took a seat near the corner side. The boy came and sat opposite to me.

"Here's your coke and sorry once again." He said and smiled.

"Thank you but I will pay you back." I replied thinking whether to speak ahead or to keep quiet.

“No please. Consider it as an apology for spilling your drink, earlier. By the way I am Siddharth. You can call me Sid." He said extending his hand for a handshake.

"You have aldready said this, remember." I said.

"Yes, I did. But I haven't gotten your name." He said, smiling sheepishly. I let out a giggle before speaking.

"I am Shraddha." I said.

"We both are studying in the same year. So, let's gonna be friends." He stated.

"Wooo. Wait. We won't even know each other.It's hardly even an hour we met." I said, surprised.

"So what? I am not telling you to love me?"

I glared at him. But, I liked this guy. He seemed like a funny person even though irritating at times. I guess we can be friends.

"Relax. Just kidding." He said sensing my nervousness.

I got up as I finished my food. I took my bag and was about to leave.
"So friends?"

I walked a few distances and turned towards him who was still waiting for my response.
"I will think about it." I said and left leaving him behind.
