“Why do some people tend to stay longer in our heads than in our lives?”

By the time, the classes ended, it was still raining as me and Alia made our way towards the car.
“Damn, weather.” Alia cursed making me frown. —There is only few things which brings happiness in my life and rain is one of the thing.
“Get in the car.” Alia shouted.
“A few more minutes.” I muttered, enjoying getting soaked in rain.
“You will never change.” She said and made her way towards her car and I just gave a thought to what she said.
I never change unlike the people. People change so drastically. People hide their faces behind a mask and one fine day their mask falls down showing their true colors but it will be too late, by that time to come away from those people.
These small incidents or words reminds me of him. —No matter, how much I force myself to forget about him.
~
“I love you.” I said.
“But I never did. Have you looked yourself? What makes you think I would fall for you?” He spat, his words felt like needles in my heart.
“But......but you promised, you will stay by me.” I whispered. He smirked and walked towards me.
“In that case, I will break it.......promises are meant to be broken, baby.” He whispered, patting my cheek.
“You know, I am feeling so pity towards you. You are such a naive, innocent girl. It pinches my heart to see you in this way.” He said, dramatically holding his hand towards his heart.
With teary eyes, I stared at him unable to form words. He started laughing looking at my helpless situation.
He laughed so hard that I closed my ears and eyes and screamed.
~
I woke up with a jolt, sweat beads running from my head across my chin.
Every freaking day, I dream about this guy.
Why? Why can't he just leave my mind alone just like he left me physically?
I glanced at my clock to realize it was 8:00pm. I slept for three hours. I sighed and got up to freshen up.
I reached downstairs looking out for my mom.
“Mom.”
No response.
“Mom!” I screamed.
“Coming.” She said as she came out of the kitchen.
“I am starving.” I yelled as I sat on the sofa.
“I prepared something special today, wait.” Mom said and went inside the kitchen while I switched on the T. V. and started switching the channels to pass time.
“Here you go.” Mom said.
“Pizza.”I said in a faint voice.
~
“Please dear talk to me, I am really sorry for being late.” He said.
“I am waiting for the past half an hour.” I said, crossing my arms over my chest, glaring at him.
“I am sorry.” He said.— I groaned and turned aside.
“I know how to cool you down.” He said taking out something from his bag.
“Here you go.” He said when my eyes widened at the food in front of me. No matter how bad my mood is when I see food, all my frustration melts away.
“Pizza!.” —My stomach grumbled and my mouth started watering.
“Now will you forgive me?” He asked.
“I will eat and then decide on what has to be done for you.” I said. He laughed and hugged me, kissing on my cheek.
“I love you.” I said.
~
Tears started to form in my eyes as the memories started to play in front of me.
He never said those three words to me. It was always me who said those words. —The signs was always there. I should have been smart enough to understand he wasn't serious with me like I was.
But as everyone says love makes people blind. I mistook he loved me over the small gifts he gave or how he made me smile everytime or the care he showed for me.
But it was all fake.
“Shraddha, what are you thinking? The food will turn cold.” My mom said.
I need to get away from this place before I loose control in front of my mom and burst into tears.
I got up and started walking towards my room.
“Where are you going?Have your pizza.” Mom said confused.“Mom, I will have later.” I yelled and slammed the door.
God, why can't I just act he didn't exist in my life and move on? Why am I just struck in the past?
