Half & Half

Chapter Twenty

Stood before the group of six were the two people only Alice and Edward had seen in their heads, the rest were left to use their imagination in creating what the figures would look like. Both are tall, slim females with the darker skinned out of the two being ever so slightly muscular, in her human life sports clearly played a poignant role by the looks of the touching the surface of the skin muscles, not given the chance to fully define before taken away long before it’s prime. The other female, known as Riley’s mate by Edward’s mental recognition was delicate in comparison with her hair as different as the Cullen’s, platinum gold. Her face though delicate was not as delicate as Renesmee who looked at them both with cautious eyes, careful not to give away her hidden fear. The hair that shone like the sun fell no more than to the tops of her shoulders whereas the dark as night dreadlocks of her companion, Kairisha, flowed as long as the river was wide, elegant yet filled with hidden and deep meaning with a coarse face to match.

As always, Carlisle was the first to step slightly out from the group, showing clear to those in front of him that he was top dog, radiating out authority and leadership from where he now stood.

“Welcome, my name is Carlisle and this is my family.” He gestured gracefully to the five remaining behind him. “You already know us and who we are, we intend you no harm and don’t wish to start anything here tonight. My only request is to know your intent for your visit here, and that you go in peace.”

Carlisle did well in negotiations as many times with Aro proved well in its effectiveness with various enemies and acquaintances through the years that followed. Despite her dominating look, Kairisha remained silent as through a silent exchange of looks, Riley’s mate broke her statue-like stance as she changed into a friendly yet casual stance, showing the Cullen’s without having to speak that she meant no harm or threat to them.

“I am Adrienne. Yes Carlisle we know all about you and your ‘family’, nice word that, family. Means many things, togetherness, loyalty, belief…hope.” Adrienne listed off the words as if they were a list of the condemned soon to be hanged, her words a mere hiss to the ears of the Cullen’s who had to hear them out, continuing to listen in hidden despair. “All the things I’m pretty sure you all are aware, I will never have. Apart from my partner here, she can feel what I feel. No pun intended on the one you call ‘Jasper’, I’m sure if he were here he’d change all that.” She smirked wickedly, eyeing up each family member one by one.

Kairisha stood silently as Adrienne spoke the words both of them felt deep within them, standing out to her in particular was Renesmee, curious to know why such a being exists now from seeing her in person, other than being informed of her from their quest on gathering all possible information on the Cullen’s before their arrival.

“However we’re not here to discuss schizophrenic siblings, Carlisle I accept your humble request.” Adrianne continued, emphasising on his peaceful nature as if mocking it. “In the past if I’m correct, only two of you were able to see what was coming at you, so I thought ‘Why not let them see what they’re up against.”

Jacob’s hand gripped ever so slightly on Renesmee’s hand as he knew very well that they’d be paying extra attention to this one, it also meant more worry for Renesmee in terms of by Adrianne doing all the talking it made Kairisha even more dangerous. Silent but deadly it meant that Kairisha’s vendetta against Jacob for killing Laurent remained under wraps, therefore it looked like all the focus for their visit was Adrianne’s chance to show her vengeful side for a friend of vampire, a wolf no less, siding with the vampires and killing her boyfriend. The game was just starting.

“And ‘why?’ I can assume you’re all thinking, well, the answer is simple. You’re weighing us up as we are now, what we’re doing, what we’re capable of etc... . Maybe even ways on how to eliminate us, well bravo for you. Thinking will get you nowhere with us, it’s all about doing. Doing gets things done as Carlisle…” Adrianne had stopped her short distance pacing to look at the hard-faced father figure, protecting his family. “…as you may know all too well, September 1918 to be exact. You had to get THAT done, didn’t you?” her jibe towards creating Edward was effective in its task of winding him up.

Bella slid her hand into his bringing him instant comfort and fading is climbing rage, Esme and Renesmee remained silent and receptive at this point as Jacob and Edward’s protective and defensive stances and glances remained. Adrianne smirked and continued her speech.

“But enough of all that for now, you’ve seen us, you’ve eyed us both up despite my partner remaining silent I’m surprised no one’s questioned that. Never mind then.” Adrienne stepped back to join Kairisha. “Any questions?”

Her talk seemed a little rushed, maybe that was just in her nature to rush, despite that fact Carlisle stepped forward again, his shoes filling the imprints of where he first emerged to the spot of.

“Thank you, Adrianne for speaking your mind. None of my family has any questions for you today, should you choose to visit us again, and then we will ask. For now we’ve seen all we need to see. May you go in peace.” He said softly and remained standing forward, showing he was more than serious with his decision.

Adrianne smirked, “As you wish.” It surprised the Cullen’s and indeed Jacob at how compliant she was, contrary to her fiery personality. “I’m sure you’ll know if we decide to visit again, until then me and my partner bid you adieu, Cullen’s.” her smirk fading, Adrianne was the first to hastily depart as there was more she could have done but kept reserved for later. Kairisha scanned the Cullen’s, and Jacob, a final time before her eyes rested on the odd couple. Renesmee gripped Jacob’s hand in order to remain calm-faced in the eyes of the muscular monster that stood before her, Kairisha too had seen all she needed to see from them, and with the turning of her eyes, equally too her body had turned and was no more in sight.

A collective sigh of relieve resonated from the group despite only two needing the air to do such a thing, their relief broke the tension they all could feel and folded into Jacob’s arms once more, Renesmee felt safe now that they had gone, for now. They would resurface again later, Carlisle and Edward on exchanging a wordless glance took their mates back to the main house, swiftly followed by the padding of paws as Renesmee rode bareback on Jacob, to fit another piece into the gigantic puzzle.
