Half & Half

Chapter Eleven.

    Renesmee hadn’t fainted at anything before, then again she hadn’t had much reason to other than possibly the first kiss between her and Jacob, but on this occasion when she realised his life was on the line she went into complete and utter shock resulting in her passing out. Her head lay gently on Bella’s lap, Bella’s cool marble hands gently made their way several times through Renesmee’s curls as she laid there, Jacob watched over her less anxious now he knew she was going to be okay. Edward stood protectively by Bella’s side as he prompted Alice to carry on with her vision explanation.

    “So, so far, what I’ve gathered is that Riley’s mate and Kairisha have teamed up thanks to aid from the Volturi. They deem it fair that they should get a chance at revenge for avenging their mates. There’s more that’s unfolding but I need a clear day to figure out what’s fully going on.” Alice leaned back into the cold yet comforting embrace of Jasper as she finished her speech.

 Jacob rose to his feet and he looked directly at Edward, his look was determined and somewhat fierce. Right now he was not a force to be reckoned with, not when his precious Renesmee was worried for his life.

    “I’m going to go out and tell the pack what’s the deal so far, that way I can go talk to Sam and the others and figure out a plan to then come back and compromise with you guys. Just until we can know the full story. It’s not just my life on the line at the moment it’s Seth too, and I won’t have any harm come to him.” He bent down and he stroked Renesmee’s hand gently before both Edward and Carlisle gave a nod of approval. Jacob headed out, phasing as he left now with Paul and Jared at his flanks as he raced back towards La Push to relay the news.

 Rosalie and Emmett quickly made haste and went off to tell the news to the Denali’s, ever since the last battle with the Volturi their closest ‘vampire’ relatives were always the first to know what was happening. Even if it did concern the wolves, since Renesmee is partially connected to this the Denali’s swore an oath to protect the life of a rare species, one of only two in the whole world. Esme and Carlisle went off up into Carlisle’s office to make a few calls and contact a few connections of theirs now on e-mail, Alice and Jasper stayed with Bella, Edward and Renesmee for the meantime whilst Edward listened to Jacob’s thoughts so he knew what was going on.

    “It’s done.” Jacob said as he jogged back into the Cullen’s an hour later.

Edward rose to his feet as he and Carlisle were the only two still to reside in the living space, he stopped before Jacob and exhaled.

    “I appreciate the pack’s cooperation with this, especially since it is you who are the targets more so than Renesmee.” Edward’s tone was clipped ever so slightly as he watched Jacob.

Jacob on the other hand looked a little more relaxed than Edward, considering it was his life as well as Seth’s that was on the line at this point. His gaze shifted around all points of the room, looking around Edward’s body not spotting either Bella or Renesmee.

    “Where are they?”  Jacob said as he moved around to get a better look.

“They’re upstairs, in my old room. Go on up, I think I can hear Renesmee awake now.” Edward’s tone had changed; it now radiated calm and compassion. It wasn’t often that Edward would show Jacob open compassion especially when it came to his daughter but the both of them had opened up considerably after he imprinted on Renesmee. It had taken them seven years to be able to trust one another completely but in the end they had got there.

    “Alright.” Jacob nodded and bounded on up the stairs.

Edward was right, Renesmee was awake and she was sitting up in the same four poster bed that Edward had gotten him and Bella for her overnight stay. Not much had changed in his room except it had a few more of Renesmee’s things in it for whenever she stayed over at the house for the night. Bella was on the bed in front of Renesmee, the two in deep conversation about what was going on, Bella doing her motherly bit of keeping calm and order. That was until Renesmee sensed Jacob watching, her eyes immediately darting to his as he met hers.

    “I’ll leave you two to talk.” Bella smiled as she tapped Renesmee’s hand.

        “Okay momma.” Renesmee smiled back at her, her eyes never leaving Jacob’s as she heard her mother leave.

            “You alright?” Jacob said as he took Bella’s place on the bed, his hands resting on his bent knees as he kept facing Renesmee.

Renesmee nodded and she moved his hands off his knees, keeping his hands in-between hers as she exhaled, clearly concerned about him and his life no matter how much consoling Bella attempted to do, the worry would always be there.

    “Yes, it’s just..” she exhaled again.

Jacob moved his hands now so that his thumb stroked gently across her knuckles.

  “Hey, don’t be afraid okay? Right now it’s just two vampires nothing we can’t handle. We’ve done this before and we can do it again, we’re experts.” Jacob said with a proud grin.

Renesmee couldn’t help but smile back, his smile was infectious.

    “Alright, but I still don’t understand why after seven years did they chose to do it. They had time but why now?” she said as Jacob gently pulled her onto his lap, wrapping his arms around her so she was encircled in his matching warmth.

       “I don’t know Ness, but whatever the reason, we can do this together.” He said as he soothingly stroked her hair.”

Jacob held her like this until they both grew tired, the both of them now on the left side of the bed, Renesmee all tucked into Jacob’s body as he enveloped hers. They had never spooned like this before but judging by the smile on both of their sleepy faces, the troubles of today were a thing of the past.

    “Adorable.” Bella said as she and the rest of the family looked on from the doorway. Even Edward couldn’t help but smile, the cuteness looking at the odd yet fitting couple charmed the whole family back into their usual calm aura state. Pockets of happiness like this made them forget all their troubles, remembering what life is really all about. Love.
