Half & Half

Chapter Twenty-Three

Later on that day, Jacob arrived in La Push as planned following Carlisle’s friendly instructions. So far the main focus has been on Jacob and Renesmee, this part of Carlisle’s plan would incorporate Seth and tie the whole unconventional family back together again. Seth jogged out from Emily’s just as Jacob arrived, the two exchanging a brief hug before standing mildly at ease facing out towards the drop beside the property.

“So how are you feeling? Are you good?” Jacob asked as calmly as possible, to keep Seth reassured.

“Yeah I’m cool. I know what’s going on so I’m not all that worried. I know that if we were in any real danger the two of us wouldn’t be here, we’d be somewhere where nothing would put us in danger.” Seth said as he smiled his usual chirpy smile.

Jacob felt a little protective over Seth, he was no longer the baby of the pack but since Jacob took Seth under his wing once Sam stepped down as alpha wolf, the sense of responsibility still lingered around even after all the time has passed since that moment. All sense of fear vanished once the two had expressed their feelings getting them out in the open, what was really calling them more was the enchanting, alluring smells of Emily’s cooking.

“Steaks.” Seth beamed a full-toothed smile at Jacob.

“Steaks.” Jacob repeated with an equal grin, wrestling his way inside with Seth as it was competition time to see who would get the biggest. Nine times out of ten it would be Jacob but being kind-hearted as he is he would give it up for Seth.

Later on as promised, Renesmee’s phone buzzed only startling her a little as she sat drying her hair at her make-up table. She knew it would be a message from Jacob to keep her sated, but what the message would entail is a complete mystery, as any text would be unless you’re Alice. The message was indeed from Jacob once she opened up her phone, she began to read his lengthy message.

~Hey Ness, I don’t know if you’re asleep or not but here’s hoping you’re not so you can read this. From what Edward has told me, Adrianne and Kairisha don’t have a psychic like Alice but they know how to block her vision somehow, thanks to this we can meet more often. Meet me in our usual spot in an hour, love you. Jake.~

Faster than she could move, Renesmee got herself ready quicker than a lightning strike could strike the Earth, Edward would know what she’s going to do but he wasn’t going to stop her today. He knew how precious time with the one you loved when they were in danger really meant, it reminded him of the time Riley and Victoria were at large, time with Bella then when he didn’t know if he would be alive or dead at the end of it made him realise what was truly important.

Just less than an hour later Renesmee was off and running through the woods heading towards their meeting spot, musky smells of wolves covering the entire area making it impossible for her to tell when Jacob was there, only the quickening of her heart would tell her. Upon arriving she felt the fresh musky smell stronger than anywhere else, her heart quickened with the familiar quickening she was used to, and finally, a smile rose onto her face as two warm familiar hands snaked their way around her waist.

“Hello there beautiful, get my note?”

“Mhm” Renesmee said, turning around in his arms until she faced him.

“I missed you so much Nessie, I want us to do this every day, I don’t care if the enemy knows, you’re more important to me.”

“Okay Jacob, I’d love that.” Renesmee said softly, shortly cut off by the warm sensation of Jacob’s lips.

Long awaited passion spread through their bodies as they inched ever closer, so close until there was no need to distinguish air space between them. The passion spread faster and faster like wildfire in the blood, Jacob’s back pressed up against the tree, shortly before he turned Renesmee’s back around so she was the one pressed up against the coarse bark. Renesmee joined in with Jacob’s panting like two wolves that had been running for their lives, running just like their hearts were racing as kisses sweet that of young lovers transformed into kisses of long-awaited passion from distant lovers.

“Nessie…” Jacob said as his hungry lips hovered inches in front of hers.

    “Yes Jacob?”

“I-I’m not sure about this…” he said his voice teetering on the brink of being shaky.

“What?” Renesmee’s voice was almost a whisper.

“This isn’t right…” Jacob stepped back, letting go of her hips, standing now a meter away from her.

“What’s not right? Jacob what’s the matter?”

“I can’t do this with you here; it’s not the right time or the place. You felt how I felt right? I want that so badly but Nessie, maybe once it’s all over, and then we’ll become one.”

Blinking, Nessie swallowed and nodded, stepping to the left so she was no longer supported at the back by the tree.

“I see, if that’s how you feel. I’ll see you tomorrow Jacob.”

“Nessie wait…” he was too late, she had already taken off back to the cottage, back to where she would be given happiness instead of heartbreak, she never expected such a refusal from Jacob, not at a time like this.

“Great” Jacob grumbled, his fist thumping the length of the tree, sending sound waves through the forest. He took off as fast as she did back towards La Push, this was the last thing he needed after spending so long to keep her happy, now when morning comes he would have to make it up to her, to make her happy once more.

“Honey what’s wrong?” Bella said softly as she watched the sniffling Renesmee come in the cottage front door.

“Nothing mom.” Renesmee swiftly went into her bedroom, locking her door so she could calm down alone without having to have the pain of re-telling Bella what happened to her just now. Edward stepped forward putting a hand on her shoulder.

“I’ll tell you, let her be for now.”

    “Alright.”

Edward took Bella over to the couch where he further told her what had happened, Bella was deeply saddened and ashamed that Jacob should have such thoughts but more importantly, pushed her away in such a rude manor. The day that would follow would be the day that a choice had to be made, that’s when it would all begin.
