Skylar's POV
"You're not making sense." I folded my arms with my back against a locker.
Jackson stood in front of me with both his hands inside his pockets. He'd been very uptight lately. We never spoke in the halls at school and he was very careful on what he said during sixth period. He looked off to both sides before tilting my head up by my chin and kissing me.
"You know I care about you, but we just gotta chill for a while. People are talking."
"About us? Who?" I asked probably a little too loudly.
"Just people." he looked over his shoulder. "Carly isn't exactly the best at not gossiping." I rolled my eyes.
Carly hasn't been as much of a pain lately, but the after math of her destruction was just now setting in. She and my mom, being the only two in the house that know about Jackson and me, often commented on how cute we were. My mom also always made an effort to try to get me to tell my dad. Its not happening. I can't see telling him or Kyle. My dad would ship me away and probably murder Jackson. Jackson's told me a few times how terrified he is of my dad, it's cute. I don't know what Kyle would do. From what I hear he was pretty cool when Jackson and Carly were together. If I can't even nut up to tell my family I'll never be able to come out to friends and complete strangers.
"You're right. We both can't risk people knowing. You're trying to get into college and I can't deal with high school with everyone talking about me." I said holding my shoulders.
"Just while we're at school, okay?" he tried cheering me up. I smiled and nodded. "When we're at home that can all change." he grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him.
"So much for laying low." I smiled and pushed him off of me. "See you after school?" He nodded and headed off in the opposite direction of me. I smirked at the sight of his butt leaving down the hall.
"Stop checking me out." he said.
"I was not checking you--"
"You were staring at my butt." he continued walking off and caused me to laugh.
"Oh, wait. How did your doctors appointment/ job interview go?" he turned around in the middle of the hallway.
"I got it." he said not too enthusiastic. He pursed his lips and rubbed a hand through his hair.
"Are you going to tell my dad?"
"I don't plan on it."
"I think he's going to notice when you're not at home and you're missing practices." Jackson's dad called him up a week or so ago and told him that they were having financial issues at his job. He wasn't going to be able to send a lot of money to Jackson for about a month. He immediately starting job hunting and got one at a local sports shop.
"I'll just go with it, whatever happens happens."
"So if my dad finds out, suspends you, and you don't play next Friday, everything will be good?" he gave me a worried look and I just smiled at his cuteness. "Bye." I started walking off.
"Wait." he said stopping me this time. I turned around toward him. He had a nervous look on his face and he rubbed the back of his head.
"What?" I asked raising a brow.
He fumbled his words and avoided eye contact with me. "Did you have anything planned for today, after school?
"No..." I said.
"It's just that I was wondering, maybe we could I don't know. Catch a movie or go eat?"
"Are you asking me on a date?" A smile crept on my face.
