Chapter 1

~Emma~

I woke up to the sound of my alarm ringing in my ear. I groan but roll over and hit the snooze button. 

"5 more mins" I think to myself. I feel my eyes getting heavy once again like they did last night. Before I knew it, I was asleep yet again. But was yet again awoken by my alarm.

I decide it's finally time to get up and turn off the alarm. I sit up and grab my black glasses off my bed side and walk to the bathroom. 

I look at myself in the mirror, first day of high school. Freshman year. 

"Morning sis" My sister Katie says walking in the bathroom, she stands next to me as she begins to wash her face, I still decide what I want to do first.

My sister, Katie was already making her way to the closet in our shared bedroom

"Morning" I yawned grabbing my glasses off of my bed side

"Morning" she said happily, turning on the light 

"Why are you so happy?" I asked standing up from my bed

"Because it's me and Matts one month anniversary!" She said with a big smile as she figured out what to wear

"Oh" I said smiling

Katie decided on wearing a white tank top with a lace design for the back, with jean shorts and white sandals. I decided on black shirt saying "Normal People Scare Me" quoting American Horror Story, with jean shorts, and black converse.

I'm obviously not big on first impressions

I was in the middle of brushing my hair when Katie walked in the bathroom behind me

"So mom and dad are going out tonight and I'm going with Matt to the movies so you'll be home alone for a while. I'll be home around 9:00" she said.

"Okay" I said "but Mahogany invited me to her party tonight"

"She's a junior Em, are you sure you're up for that yet? It's the begining of your freshman year" She said applying foundation to her face

"I'll be okay. Besides, me and Mahogany have been friends for a while, I trust her" I said putting my hair in a side braide

"Fine, do you know what time it'll end?" She asked grabbing her eyeliner

"It's a high school party, I'm sure it'll end when the popular people leave" I say grabbing my eyeliner

"This makes me nervous Em" She said looking at me

"Katie, I'll be okay. I promise. If I need you, I'll call you" I said. She nodded and went back to perfecting her make up. I finish with the eyeliner and move onto mascara when my phone vibrates from my side table

I finish applying the mascara and walk to my phone to see a text from my best friend, Torrie

First day of high school Em! Meet me in the commons, I don't wanna be alone!

I reply with a laughing face and an okay before taking my phone off the charger and start walking downstairs to get breakfast 

Which is normally cereal, put I smell pancakes

I hit the bottom of the stairs and see mom in the kitchen making pancakes, I smile

"What's the occasion?" I ask sitting at the bar

"It's your first day of high school baby!" She says putting some pancakes on my plate

"You know, I met your father in high school. Freshman year too" She said smiling at me

"Your point is?" I ask taking a bite of a pancake

"Look, all I'm saying is maybe you'll find someone like how Matt and Katie found each other" She said

"I'm just- not ready for another relationship mom" I say breaking eye contact

I know baby, just take your time okay?" she asks, I nod my head and finish up my food

Mom takes my plate so I can run upstairs and brush my teeth

I start brushing when I start thinking of Hunter, my ex

"Why?.." I ask breathless

"Emma, baby I can explain-" He starts

"NO, you've done enough" I say

I feel the tears running down my face, not as fast as my legs. I don't even know where I'm going

A year, thrown out of the window. I get it, it's only 8th grade. But me and Hunter, we had something. But I suppose not considering he was all over Amber the way he was.

I spit and put my tooth brush away before I get lost in thought again

I apply chapstick and grab my backpack before walking down stairs to the car to wait for mom

Katie and mom come out of the house 10 minutes later and we head to the school

Katie is a junior, dating THE Matthew Espinosa, a junior as well. Katie has straight strawberry blonde hair with green eyes. Matthew has dirty blonde hair, chocolate brown eyes. They've been dating for a year today

I have light brown curly hair, with light brown eyes, and this is my freshman year of high school. Relationship status? Hah, single

We pull up to the front of the school and I follow Matt and Katie to the front doors. I asume they don't want a freshman following them around so I go to find Torrie

I look around and don't find her. Instead I find my current crush, Hayes Grier. Honestly, I've liked Hayes since the beggining of 7th grade

I watch his girlfriend sneak up behind him and get on her tip toes to kiss his cheek. He turns around with a huge smile on his face as he wraps her in his famous bear hugs. He glances at me and looks back down. No, he couldn't had looked at me

I turn to look behind me, all there were was nerds and such. I ignore the feeling of butterflies in my stomach and go to find Torrie

"Emma!" I hear somebody shouting at me. I turn around and see Torrie running up to me. I smile and we hug

"I'm so fricking nervous" I say looking at my schedual

"Me too, but I heard we go to our homeroom first" she said. I look at the clock, it read 7:53

"I guess I'll go ahead and find my class, what room is yours?" I asked

"Uhm, D2" She says confused

"Me too!" I said, we both walk to the room and take a seat
