The crowded room had empty bottles scattered on the ground, just waiting for someone too accidentally trip over them. I was almost that someone as for the people in the crowded area they were dancing. Their sweaty bodies rubbing against one another.
As I stepped over the mess, people eyes were on me like a pack of wolves in search of food as I passed by. I always felt out of place at parties like these.
"Sydney." I frowned. "I thought you said this was a little get-together."
"It is," Sydney said, dancing as we squeezed our way through the crowd.
"Everybody and their mama is here Sydney if I would've known there would be this many people. I would've never came."
"Just enjoy yourself Monifah." Sydney grabbed my hand, guiding me to a table that four other people were sitting at. "Guys, this is my friend Monifah."
I waved shyly.
I sat down in the empty seat next to Sydney as she started speaking with the group of guys, leaving me sitting there looking like a lost little puppy.
They were rattling about something that I had no interest in knowing about.
"No, no, but was I talking to you?" The guy asked Sydney laughing.
"But I'm talking though," Sydney explained.
"Sydney, what you need is a real man to get into a conversation with you."
"Excuse you, but Rell I have a man. Thank you very much," Sydney said.
I sighed.
"Where is he then?" Rell asked.
"He's not here as you can clearly see that," Sydney stated.
"What I'm saying is that you need some romance in your life." Rell smirked.
"And I'm guessing you're an expert on that, hm?"
"Yes, that I am."
"Boy, you're the least romantic person sitting in this room right now." Sydney joked, glancing over at me. "Why are you so quiet over there?"
