"You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice."

DARIUS

one month later...

"I'm ready whenever you are," The sound engineer guy said from the other side of the booth.

I nodded my head, putting on the headphones that rested on the microphone. Listening to the music play in my ears.

"This is a little something I've been working on," I spoke softly into the microphone, tapping my fingers against the stand.

I listened to the beat of the music before singing. "Look what this girl done did to me, she done cut me off from a good, good love. She told me that those days were gone, now I'm sitting here going half crazy..."

I closed my eyes as I continued to sing. "Cause I know she still thinks about me too, and there ain't no way in hell, that I can be just friends with you. And I wish we never did it, and I wish we never loved it. And I wish I never fell so deep in love with you and now ain't no way we can be friends..."

I finished up my first verse, before placing the headphones back on the microphone.

I walked out of the booth, taking a seat on the couch across from Dej.

"Who's the girl?" Dej asked, eating her food. "I thought you might be hungry, so I brought you a sandwich."

"Thank you, I'm starving," I grabbed the sandwich out of the plastic bag. "And, there is no girl."

"There has to be a girl, that got you singing like that?" Dej joked.

"Well, there was a girl but-" I'm trying to forget about Monifah, so the only way I could do that is to not talk about her. "It's a long story and I don't feel like explaining it."

"Well, you know if you needed to talk. I'm always around to listen," Dej stated. "Sometimes God doesn't give you what you think you want, not because you don't deserve it but because you deserve better."

"Deep stuff, deep stuff," I shook my head, biting into my sandwich. "But I think my situation is different."

"Well, whoever the girl was, she was something special because she surely has you sprung."

I shrugged my shoulders.

"Let's change the subject for now though," Dej said. "I have a lot of things planned for this album and I want to run it by you."
