♡Singing was always my passion, my first love and the secret to my energy. Music to me is like finding my inner self. It gives me a great joy to see people enjoying with me. I have given my heart to singing.
"Man, I'm going to head back to the office and get the rest of my things," I said to my brother Michael as we sat near the window inside the music store. "I can't believe I'm finally getting up out of there."
Michael looked up at me.
"But don't you and Nas start worrying about me alright. I've saved up enough money to hold me for a while."
"I'm proud of you man, finally doing something with that voice of yours." Michael playfully punched me on the shoulder. "Don't forget about me when you make it big."
"Aw shit." I was pulled from my thoughts when Monifah walked into the store.
True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul and she was a beauty.
I tossed my bag over to Michael. "Hold this for me, for a second. I'll be right back to get it."
"Why are you giving me your junk?" Michael asked.
"Just be cool, man."
I got up from my seat, walking over towards her.
"Ah, Miles Davis." I peeked over her shoulder to see her looking through the records. "You can't go wrong with my man, Miles Davis."
"Darius, right?" Monifah stared at me and then back at the records.
Never in this life have I met a lady so beautiful, so elegant and so lovely.
I licked my lips, staring down at her.
"You say uh- do you mind if I play you something real quick?"
"Depending on what you're trying to play for me." Monifah looked up, placing her hand on her hips.
"This will be good, I promise," I smiled as our eyes met. "Watch."
Monifah playfully rolled her eyes, watching as I rummaged through the records.
I grabbed one of my favorite musical records and put in onto the turntable.
"Charlie Parker." Monifah walked over towards me. "I never heard this particular song be-"
"Shh," I placed my index finger in front of my lip. "Just listen."
I swayed my head to the music, as each sound wave escaped from the speakers.
"It sounds kind of sad," Monifah stated.
"It's not sad, it just has a deeper message behind it."
"Maybe," Monifah smiled at me before walking over to pay for her record.
Her smile lit up the room.
I just watched her body as she walked away.
"Uh- maybe you and I should get together sometime and have some drinks or something." I caught up with her at the exit.
"I don't know if that would be a very good idea."
"Well, why not?" I asked.
"I'm just going through a lot right now and it's just bad timing. It's nothing personal."
"I understand," I smiled.
"Thank you for the record though." Monifah smiled before walking out of the store.
"Damn it." I mumbled to myself as I made my way back over to Michael.
"I messed that shit up man," Michael looked up at me, laughing.
"You move too fast that's why" Michael stated. "You have to take it slow and steady with a woman, they don't like to just rush into things."
"Yeah you right." I ran my hands down my face. "Do you still remember where Sydney lived?"
"Why?"
"No reason," I answered. "I was just trying to check up on a friend."
"Man, you just wanted to see if you could run into that girl," Michael stated. "I am not giving you Sydney's address."
"Help a brother out."
"What if Monifah has a man already?"
"Shit, I never thought about that." I shook my head. "Just give it to me anyways."
Michael pulled out a piece of scrap paper from his jacket and wrote down the address.
"Here you-" I snatched the paper out his hand before he could finish his sentence.
"Good looking out my brother," I grabbed my bag from him and walked out of the store.
Feelings grow and feeling fade. They come and they go, but the saddest feelings are those left unsaid.
