"Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

DARIUS
♡"Oh Darius, go get your tired ass friend," Michael wife said, storming out the house.
I just stood there confused, watching as Michael and Felicia went back and forth with each other.
"Don't stand by the phone negro," Felicia got into her car, slamming the door.
"If you stopped being so damn selfish and started saving some damn money then we wouldn't be going through this shit!" Michael yelled.
"Michael get it together," Felicia stuck up her middle finger before driving away.
I just stared at Michael in complete shock.
"What the hell are you looking at?" Michael asked.
"We were supposed to go to play some chess, remember?"
"Yeah, I know that." Michael shook his head. "But I don't really feel like doing that right now."
"Alright, we can just chill here," I followed Michael towards the front porch, sitting down in the chair that rested near his front door.
"You want a beer?" Michael asked, opening up his screen door.
I shook my head in agreement.
Michael came back outside, holding two beers. "Here you go."
Grabbing the beer from his hand, I placed it on the side of me.
"Man, let me ask you something brother," I rubbed my nose. "You think you with the woman, you suppose to be with?"
He chuckled, letting out a deep sigh. "That question requires deep thought."
"Come on man, just answer the question."
"So, you're asking me if I married my soul mate?" He asked, taking a sip of his beer.
"Yeah."
Michael sucked his teeth. "It doesn't really matter anymore man, who you're with is who you're with. You just gotta try and make it work."
"Real deep Michael." I sighed. "Real deep man."
"There you go," Michael said. "People with profound insights on life knows not to get married. Those that do, know that marriage is what you make it to be."
I sipped my beer.
"Oh, wait for a second their brother," Michael smiled. "Is this about that girl Monifah?"
"What are you talking about man?"
"This is about that girl Monifah, right?" He asked, waiting for me to answer.
I cleared my throat.
"She jacked you up, didn't she?"
"She jacked me up man," I stated. "Like oh man dude, she put it on me and the next morning I got up and made breakfast."
"You made breakfast?"
"Yeah," I shook my head. "I was in there cooking."
"Wait, you cooked what?" Michael stared at me, laughing.
"Cheese omelets," I chuckled.
"A cheese omelet?" Michael laughed. "Darius you better put your name on that."
I smiled to myself.
"So, what are we talking about here?" Michael asked. "Is she your soulmate?"
"Hardly," I said. "I just said the sex was good, that's it."
Michael stared at me.
"You know this ain't no love thing, we're just kicking it."
"Welp, my friend," Michael shook his head. "You know when those drawls come down, you're fucked up."
"Man, she knows we're just kicking it," I stated, chugging down the rest of my beer.
"Does she really?"
"Yeah," I said. "But, quit talking about me and Monifah. What was that earlier with you and Felicia?"
"I don't know what to say about that woman," Michael rubbed his hand down his face. "First minute she's happy and then the next she's complaining about some unnecessary shit, that was her fault from the beginning."
"You must've done something to make her that pissed off."
"I ain't do shit man," Michael stated. "If she wasn't out spending every dime that I make, then we wouldn't have to worry about coming up with money to pay the fucking bills. This is the type of shit that pisses me off with Felicia. She never wants to accept the fact that she made the wrong decision and got us in this predicament."
"Like you told me earlier," I said. "It doesn't matter who you're with, you just got to try and make it work."
"I'm trying my hardest man, I really am but I just don't know anymore," Michael sighed.
Life puts obstacles in our way to see if what we want is worth fighting for.
