Chapter 8
Spanish was a pain. Science was a breeze. And gym was a disaster.
The girls in my gym class are: me, Caroline, Nicole, Cassidy, Laura (another one of the sluts), Mia (this quiet girl), and Trish (an over-achiever who never shuts up).
The guys in my class are: nick (who's at the nurse still, or went home, poor guy), Austin, mike (who isn't in the nurse anymore. He's back in class), hunter, Brendan (jock and mikes friend), jake (this hilarious dude whom I've known since kindergarten) and Chris (skater dude and hot but real quiet).
The guys all get along really well. The girls, not so much.
Rachel is in the other gym class, so until now, Nicole was my only buddy in gym class. Now she was hanging with Laura and Cassidy. I didn't mind because I had Caroline. Poor Mia was stuck with Trish blabbing on and on about how and why she should've received first place instead of second for some competition. I gave Mia a sympathetic smile, who gave me a look that I just couldn't read. Oh well.
We were all just chillin and shooting hoops as warm ups when Mrs. Springfield, our middle-aged health-freak gym teacher strolled to the front of the gym and blew her whistle so loud that my ears rang. Gosh she doesn't have to do it to hard and long!
We all formed a line as she paced in front of us, telling us (or Yelling at us) about what we shall play today. Dodge ball. Typical.
I'm good at it, don't get me wrong. But it's so competitive of a game that I've stopped enjoying it.
After being told the rules (even though we all know how to play), we broke up into teams that mrs Springfield chose for us. My team was: me, mike, Caroline, Brendan, Austin, and Trish. So we were versing Cassidy Nicole, Mia, Hunter, Laura, Chris, and Jake. Their team had 7 kids while we only had 6. 😶
'Let the games begin!' Mrs Springfield announced, making it sound like the hunger games or something. I glanced to my right at Caroline as we stood in the back while everyone charged to go get the dodge balls. The perfect strategy is to wait until the chaos is over. And great minds think alike, so Caroline and I wordlessly knew exactly what to do. Once the big stuff had finished and the game was now in action, Caroline and I snuck around like mice to go get some dodge balls. I was wearing capris and a t-shirt while Caroline was wearing leggings and a t-shirt. I looked at Nicole, Cassidy and Laura, who all wore sports bras and shorts that were so short that I could see their underwear every time they bent down to pick up a dodge ball. I don't even know how the teachers allow this. Mia was in sweats and a T-shirt while Trish was in a tube top and Capri leggings.
I was suddenly pushed to the ground. I looked to where I had been standing and saw a dodge ball bouncing there.
'Yo pay attention!' Mike hissed to me. He'd pushed me out of the way so I wouldn't get hit. Oh how sweet, I thought bitterly.
I glared at mike, who looked like he was trying to read my thoughts. He was on top of me and if he leaned in a little, we would be kissing. Yuck.
Bam! He'd gotten hit! For saving me?! WHAT! Shoot. He was out. The best player on our team was out. I grimaced and mouthed a 'sorry' to mike.
I stood up and scanned my surroundings. On our team, everyone was out except Caroline and I,because we had laid low, and Brendan. On the other team, the only people who were in were Nicole, Cassidy, Laura... And Mia.
I ducked, dodging the ball that I had sensed flying towards me. I sprinted to the other side of the gym, bending to pick up a dodge ball in one swift motion. Before throwing it, I heard a loud 'UGH' and knew that Caroline was out. It was me and Brendan against four girls. We could beat them.
