Chapter 28

Antonio's POV*

Its the day of Atwater ceremony. We all arrived at the district in our uniforms. Katie walked up to me.

Katie: you gonna be alright?
Me: yeah.
Katie: look, things happen for a reason. Not all cops under Voight are invincible. Jules was a great girl i bet, and Atwater was an awesome guy, but you cant let this get to you. I know it hurts because it feels like you lost a member of your family. And you did in a way. But you always have the rest of the family to make you smile. So dont let this bring you down. Alright?
Me: okay.

Katie was right. I couldnt let this get to me. I just have to deal with it and move on.

Burgess POV*

I got ready for Kevin's ceremony. This was the first time i havent been crying. Kevin was an awesome partner and i cant believe hes gone. Everyone is hurting but im hurting the most. Now i dont have anyone to be my partner. This is the bad part about being a cop. You never know when your last day is. But thats the risk you take if your willing to become a cop.

I walked out of my apartment and drove to the ceremony. When we were saluting i held back my tears so hard. Once it was over and we were able to leave, i went into my car and just cried. Then someone knocked on my window. It was Adam. I rolled it down and wiped my eyes.

Adam: hey you gonna come to Mollys?
Me: nah im good
Adam: can i sit with you?

I unlocked the door and he went around to the passenger side. He sat in the car with me.

Adam: you alright?

I shook my head. He put his arm around me. I felt safe in his arms. It was a feeling that ive never felt before.

Adam: its gonna get easier. I promise you.
Me: you sure about that?
Adam: if im here for you, it will.

I smiled.

Adam: cmon, come to Mollys. Have a drink for Atwater
Me: alright ill come
Adam: sweet, meet you there.

He got out and went to his car. Im happy me and him are giving us a chance. I got to Molly's and when i walked in, i spotted Adam and everyone at the same table. I went and sat down next to Adam. A shot glass was brought to me as i sat down.

Me: hi guys.
Katie: how you holding up hun?
Me: alright i guess
Antonio: well i think its time for a toast.

We all held up our glasses.

Antonio; Atwater was a great guy. And he will be missed. We did lose him, but he will always be in our thoughts and memories. So this is for Atwater. The most greatest and toughest cop i have ever seen! Cheers
Everyone: cheers!

We took our shots.

Erin: damn. That was definitely needed
Jay: got that right

We all laughed and continued to talk. I finally felt welcomed some where. Im hoping to get into intelligence. For now though im just a regular uniform that wants to be a detective.
