Chapter 34

*Two weeks later*

Katie POV*

I was setting up Severide and Erin's date so he can propose. He didnt have an issue with the size of the ring because Erin and I are the same size. We used to share rings and jewelry all the time.

Kelly came to the Riverwalk restaurant.

Kelly: thank you for helping me
Me: no problem! I want Erin to be happy
Kelly: i appreciate all of this seriously

He gave me a big hug. We stayed hugging for a little bit.

Me: alright its almost time for Erin to come so let me get out of here. Good luck!
Kelly: thanks. Thank you!

I left and went to Molly's

Herrmann: Hey Jacobs! How ya doing hun?
Me: good just a sweet tea please
Herrmann: got it
Dawson: so i heard Kelly is gonna be proposing.
Me: how did you know?
Dawson; shay told me
Herrmann: and now Dawson just told me
Me: well yes i helped him prepare everything. He really loves Erin
Dawson; hows you and Jay?
Me: we're good. I just found out im having a baby
Dawson; OH MY GOD!! Congrats!!!
Herrmann: hey congrats kiddo!
Me: thanks guys!
Dawson: ill babysit whenever you need me to!
Herrmann: and i got playmates for your little guy or gal

I laughed at how happy they were. My pager beeped.

Me: Go for Jacobs
Voight: your gonna wanna come to my office when you get back. Asap
Me: copy that

I put it away as i got out money and handed it to Gabby.

Dawson: everything alright?
Me: yeah im still working but apparently somethings going down
Herrmann: well good luck!
Me: thanks guys! Ill see you later

I walked out and i saw this guy in a hoddie tryna walk really fast. I watched the guy as i walked to my car. I looked down to get the key to unlock the car. Just then the guy pulled out a gun and started shooting. I ducked down behind my car. I was ready to pull out my gun when i heard more shots and saw a guy fall across the street. I checked to see if it was clear and i ran to the guy laying on the floor. I pulled out my pager.

Me: THIS IS DETECTIVE KATIE JACOBS BADGE NUMBER 517789 IM ON KINGS BOULEVARD. I HAVE A CAUCASIAN MALE WITH GUN SHOT WOUNDS TO THE RIGHT SIDE MIGHT BE A BLEEDING ORGAN. SEND AN AMBO AND BACK UP COPS. SHOOTER IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND
Dispatcher: copy that

I held the guy's side to stop the bleeding. I saw Gabby and Herrmann run out of Molly's. Casey had just pulled up to the bar.

Gabby knelt next to me. she took her sweater off and wrapped it around the guy. An ambulance came and took the guy. Burgess and her new partner Dugan came.

Burgess: hey Katie, you alright?
Me: yeah im fine the shooter is still missing.
Dugan; anyone else here?
Me: no just me and this guy.
Burgess: alright. Come take a search with us real quick.

I nodded and got out my gun. I held it up as we slowly walked down the street. I looked down an alley and signaled for Dugan to come with me. We walked taking small steps. Just then more shots were fired. We looked around and didnt see anyone. Dugan ran back by Burgess leaving me alone. I kept walking then i saw the guy.

Me: HEY STOP!

I ran after him down the alley. He pushed garbage cans down and tried to lose me. We kept running.

Me:FREEZE!

He kept running ignoring me. We ended up back near Molly's.

Me: GRAB HIM!
