"Toothless, we can work this out," Hiccup pleaded with the corrupt dragon. Toothless roared, and prepared a blast. He shot at Hiccup.
"Son!" Stoick yelled, jumping in front of Hiccup, shoving him aside. Stoick took the blast, dying instantly.
"Ahh!" Hiccup shot up in bed, panting heavily. Astrid got up from her mat on the floor, and sat beside Hiccup.
"Its okay. Just relax," she cooed. This had been every morning for the past three weeks. Hiccup either woke up to his father's voice, or saw his father. Sometimes, he had that living nightmare when his father died.
"I know," was all Hiccup said. Toothless came up to the bed, feeling sorry for what happened. "Bud, it wasn't your fault. It was Drago's," Hiccup said to the Alpha.
"He probably thinks you're still mad at him," Astrid said. "He thinks you hate him."
"What can I do to help?" Hiccup asked.
"You're the Dragon Rider, the Chief of Berk. You need to show him, everything's okay. He got Drago back pretty good," Astrid replied. She got up from Hiccup's side and went over to Toothless. "I'm going to take Stormfly out before the Ceremony. You just mesmerize what you need to say, Chief," Astrid said with a wink.
"Chief? C'mon, you too?" Hiccup asked, getting up.
"What? The others were seeing who could push you to the brink faster. I just wanted to get a head start," Astrid replied before heading out.
"Yeah bud. Same old Astrid. Everything is a competition." Toothless warbled before waddling out the door. He roared as Stormfly flew away. Just as usual mornings, Hiccup and Toothless were bombarded by Vikings and Dragons alike.
Toothless spread his great wings, and scared everyone off, allowing the pair a peaceful walk through the village to the Great Hall. Hiccup patted his loyal dragon on the head before walking into the Hall. There were the Riders, in all their chaotic glory.
As per usual, Snotlout and Fishlegs were making cow eyes at Ruff, who was making those eyes at Eret, who was talking to Mala, who was right next to a scoffing Tuff. "Hello my wonderful bunch of arguers," Hiccup said. "No surprise, no one's listening," he said under his breath.
A little while later, he nodded his head at Toothless. Toothless roared, causing the other dragons to do the same. "Thanks bud. Okay, now that I have your attention. Today I'm picking the Grand Council, and today is Astrid's Naming Ceremony," Hiccup said.
"Naming Ceremony?" Snotlout looked away from Ruff just long enough to say that.
"Yes," Hiccup replied rolling his eyes. "The day before a lady is to be wed to the Chief, the Chief preforms a Naming Ceremony, where she leaves behind her maiden name, in this case Hofferson, and becomes a Haddock. That allows the couple to be married."
"Why don't they just do that the day of the wedding?" Ruff asked. She peeled her gaze from the eye candy across the room.
"Because, they want to ensure it isn't some sort of plan to overthrow the Chief family," Hiccup replied.
"Wait, there is such thing as overthrowing the Chief?" Ruff asked.
"Yes. My great grandfather overthrew the Chief family, who at the time were the Jorgensons. No one liked the one Chief that came from the Jorgensons."
