"I can't believe you left him! You know he can't fly on his own!" Hiccup shouted. He was on Stormfly's back with Astrid. She was flying as fast as she could to the Edge.
"Well, if we hadn't come back, Merida would have your precious tail plans," Snotlout replied in his usually snotty way.
"Yeah! What's going to be more effective? Plans for a tail, or the whole dragon?" Hiccup's statement shut everybody up.
"There!" Astrid shouted, pointing a finger at the n place where the sky met the sea. There, the Edge rose out of the ocean.
As soon as the group landed, Hiccup frantically searched for Toothless. "Skreee!" Was what they heard from the north, on top of Shmirshanwing (Shmur-shân-wing) Volcano.
"There, in the mountains!" Hiccup said. The group mounted their dragons, and headed for the sound of a panicked Toothless.
"Come dragon. You cannot fly. Your Rider abandoned you. You come with us, you can fly freely," Greta cooed. She inched closer and closer to Toothless, muzzle in hand.
Not a chance, Toothless thought, firing multiple blasts. He knew Hiccup didn't abandon him. And the tail thing, Hiccup already tried.
"Toothless!" Hiccup cried. He held Inferno in his hands, and prepared to jump from Stormfly. Toothless leapt towards the mountain side, and jumped off of it.
He spread his great wings, and met Hiccup in the air. Before the duo could crash to the ground, Hiccup activated Toothless's tail, allowing them to soar upwards. "Yeah baby!" Hiccup said, diving towards the Hunter ships. He used Toothless's wings to drive them away from the port.
"Woo hoo! Go babe!" Astrid cried, pumping her fist in the air. Hiccup circled around, and met them on the ground. The others gave Astrid a look before preparing to take off to destroy the ships.
"No, let them. Greta needs to know that we can win. And as for Merida, let this be a lesson," Hiccup said. He clearly felt hurt by Merida's betrayal.
                              Later that day
"So, what's next?" Astrid asked. She and Hiccup were watching the sunset by the stables.
"Well, I'm going to finish that racing leg and outfit, and combine it with my exploring one, and then get it ready for opening day of the Races," Hiccup replied.
"Are you upset about Merida?" Astrid asked bluntly.
"What happened to the honey and then the axe?" Hiccup asked, turning to face her.
"The honey got eaten up by a bear, now answer my question," Astrid replied.
"Well, Merida felt like a sister. Her mother raised me. I didn't have one. Heck, she was the only family I knew before her family left."
"Why did they leave?" Astrid asked. She was now quite sure it wasn't to go treasure hunting.
"I sent T.mail to my dad asking that very question, and he sent this back." Hiccup brought a paper out of his pocket, and handed it to Astrid.
Hiccup. To answer your question, Merida's father accused me of having an affair with his wife, which was why I chose her to raise you. He figured because I was missing your mother, that I would do something as law breaking as that. He took his family away silently, to preserve the peace. Hope this has shed some light on your situation.
-Stoick.
"Wow. That is, defiantly enlightening. That explains why she wanted vengeance. Because you guys kicked her family off of Berk," Astrid said.
"That, as I understand it, is what happened. We'll have to get more answers from my father when we return to Berk. First things first, we have to repair and fortify the Edge for any impending attacks," Hiccup replied, staring into the sunset.
"Then what are we doing here?" Astrid asked, a smirk decorating her face.
"Waiting until the moment is perfect," Hiccup replied. He leaned in for a kiss, only to be interrupted by the other Riders.
"Ooooh, future chief in with the ladies," Snotlout said. Hiccup rested a hand on Astrid's shoulder, in a futile attempt to keep her from killing Snotlout.
"You rotten, half-eaten munge bucket," Astrid shouted, drawing her axe. She chased after a hurried Snotlout, who ran into a napping Night Fury.
                              "Toothless, no bud," Hiccup said.
Please, please. This'll teach him not to interrupt your moments
"No, I said no," Hiccup replied.
Fine, but the next chance I get.
"Not a chance," Hiccup said, getting on Toothless. He was prepared to use physical forces if verbal ones couldn't defuse the common Jorgenson-Hofferson fight.
So I do get to blast them.
"No bud. You get to blast the ground beneath them in case that axe gets to close to Snotlout's head."
Eventually, Astrid had her fill of screaming Snotlout, and sat down by Hiccup. "There. As we were?" She asked. Hiccup didn't respond. Instead, he planted a soft kiss on her lips.
"You guys have to do that right in front of us?" Snotlout asked. The other Riders weren't used to public affection. Those who kissed and hugged in public were considered weak.
"Well, if you don't like it, I'd enjoy you cleaning the stables," Hiccup replied. The others turned away towards their dragons, and lead them back to the stables. "Hehe, works every time," Hiccup said, turning towards Astrid.
"Hiccup, I've been thinking. The races are tomorrow and your flight suit isn't done. You wanna finish that tonight?" She asked. To many people's surprise, she enjoyed the late nights handing him little pieces and parts.
"Actually, I was going to ask if you could help me. I want to make it like exploration ready. So a map, a knife, different prosthetic, you know. Its not like everyday wear, but something for adventures and such," Hiccup explained hastily. Astrid, however, enjoyed his enthusiasm.
"I'd love to," Astrid replied, heading over to the forge.  Hiccup observed the crew fixing the stables for a couple of seconds, and followed after Astrid. They worked till the wee hours of the morning, making the suit perfect. They put everything, and more. A new leg was fixed, and ready to be tested in the morning. Little did they know, that was the day that would change everything.
