"Anything?" Astrid asked, warming up by the fire. She turned the fish on a stick every once and awhile to let it cook. The dragons were fighting over raw fish in the background. Toothless being the gentle dragon he is, ended up giving his significant other the fish, and going over to get his own from the pile.
"No. I know this is a cluster of islands probably only a mile from Goodwing. I'm clueless as to why I can't find those other islands." Hiccup ran his hand through his unkempt hair.
"By 'you know, do you mean you think', right?" Astrid asked. She looked at Hiccup with all the love in the world.
"No, I am positive we are close to Goodwing."
"Maybe the volcano ash and cloud pushed us both so far, we overshot the cluster of islands. Maybe we are on a different one all together."
"That is a possibility."
"How much of one?"
"I'm not quite sure. As far as I know, in the past two to three weeks, I've searched in every possible direction, and all of those have turned up nothing. I'm not quite sure where to go from here, without hurting you or the baby."
"Why don't you let me with you?" Astrid asked. She was getting sick and tired of waiting for him to return, and it would help them work through major details for when they get back to Berk.
Hiccup rested his hands on her shoulders, rubbing them down the length if her arms. They came to envelope Astrid's small hands. "Astrid, you are with child. With my child. I'm not gonna let that go. Not even when it gets difficult."
"While that is sweet, I'm not going to let you do everything. We are in this together. We are married."
"Astrid, I can't do that to you. If I did."
Astrid put a finger to his lips, "Hiccup, you and Toothless can't do all the work. At least let Nightfire help you." She could feel every night, the anxiety and worry gnawing at him. In every breath, in every movement. It was scary for her to wake up and see him bustling about, already awake for an hour. It seemed like something little, but she was afraid that one day he would just collapse. And who knew when they would get off the island. Maybe their child would be born here. She wanted him just to let her help.
"Just read this," Hiccup said, handing papers to Astrid. They were from Magnus's collection of research.
In the year 1, a group of Berserkers landed on an island, the island of Berk. They quickly realized that the island was quite close to an island full of dragons. The Chief took ten men to the island, where they met a dragon, black as night. The dragon seemed too small to be the dragon Alpha. That was until it unfurled it's great wings and let out a blood curdling, heart thumping roar. All of the dragons fled, and the great beast approached the chief.
