I can see it. But the closer I get the farther it get. It felt like I could touch it, but it's too fare.I'm so close but yet so fare. The house. I can see it. But it feels like gravity it pulling be back.
I tried to open the door a few times and jump out of the moving car, but Kane pulled me back.
Dear heavens, can't this car go any faster.
Sigh.
Finally . We finally came to a stop in front of the big house, two stories, a dark green almost black color coated the fall. The front door, an oak wood with Roses carved into it. A garage was in my right with at least four huge windows above it. On my left was a wide porch that had at least twenty stairs, painted an off white that lead to the front door.
A porch swing was on the left side of the porch with marble floors under it and a window behind it. No gate separated the street from the garden. Oh, the garden. Lush green grass decked the ground, rose bushes were planted on each side of the porch steps, a Berry tree was on the left side of the garden with leaves greener than the earth itself.
I opened the car door the same time the front door opens. There stood my mother, as beautiful as ever. Her reddish brown hair hung over her shoulders in huge curls. Her hazel eyes twinkling with this happiness that I've longed for ever since dad died.
She had on a red dress with black Polka dots on it, it reached just above her knees. Black peep toe heels, a silver bracelet covered her right wrist and she still wore the wedding ring that dad gave her.
Out from behind her, came a cute girl dressed in a bright purple tutu, a white top and white strappy sandals with a baby doll in her hands dressed in pink and white. Her copper hair was in two pony tails and each of them had a purple pompom at the top. I ran up to my family and scooped Emma up in my arms, hugged her and kisses every part of her face. She giggled and thrashed in my arms but I only held her tighter.
"Mommy, mommy, tell Ari to put me down." Her sweet voice that I love so much, it's cotton candy and gummy bears. Mom chuckled and patted my arm.
I put Emma down but not before kissing her forehead. I turned to my mother and saw tears welled up in her eyes. I stepped closer to her and wrapped my arms around her. She hugged me like this it the last time shall ever see me.
"My baby's back. I've missed you so much." She whispered.
"I missed you too, momma." I gave her another tight squeeze before letting go. I turned to the car and saw Kane leaning against the sleek black Bentley. "Mom, this it Kane, the Vampire King." He took this as his que to get closer.
He held out his hand to mom and She took it without any resistance. Her tanned skin out shining his pale one. "How do you do, Mrs Peters." He bowed his head.
"Great, Mr Kane. What a pleasure to have you here." Mom said like she rehearsed the line.
"The pleasure is all mine." A beautiful smile appeared on his face as he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. He let go of mom's hand and keeled down to Emma's level. "And who might this young lady be?"
Emma put her doll down, stepped closer to him and pecked his cheek. I was stunned at her action but it only made mom and Kane smile. "The name so Emma, I'm three years old and will be turning four it two months." Her language and grammar was most higher than the one of a three year old and yet again, I'm stunned.
She took her tutu in both heads and made a slight courtesy. Kane took one of her hands and spun her around before kissing it and letting it go. "Shall we go in?" Mom asked. Kane waited for all of us to be inside before stepping In himself.
"The dinning area is already set, I hope you enjoy." Mom said as she lead us through the house. The dinning room was beautiful, a crystal chandelier hung from the high ceiling, a Greek painting was all over the ceiling, the dark wooden table and chairs made for twelve was In the middle. Wooden floors were all over the house. The surface of the table was fiber glass with cup holders at each chair. A silver plate sat at each seat. In the middle of the table was a silver hoop like thing that had a stainless steel pot on it. Five Fine China plates were placed on each silver one, a knife spoon and fork was at each of them. Red whine was on the table, garlic bread, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, fruit juices.
Gold cushions were on the wooden chairs making them look like thrones. But all in all it was beautiful.
Then it caught my attention. Plate number five. Five.
We were only four, unless I couldn't count.
I turned to mom and back the plate. "Mom?"
"Yes dear." Her attention was instantly on me.
"Why is there five plates if we're only four?"
"I was going to keep this a surprise, but I couldn't any more. I'm expecting a quest." She said.
"Okay, who?" I asked her.
"At least wait until he comes out to see." She pleas.
"You mean, he's here?"
"Yes honey." For a minute mom looked at Kane and back at me. Kane took this as an opportunity to wrap his arms around my waist from behind. He kissed my neck and pulled me closer.
For a moment I started to get worried. "Mom, what's going on?" I asked. I looked at Emma but she was already running down the hall at the sound of a door opening.
She disappeared and Kane held me tighter. Seconds later, Emma returned in the arms of a man with dirty blonde hair, dark brown eyes, an all too familiar five o'clock shadow. Six foot six, his face just the way I remembered, crooked nose, long eyelashes, thick black eyebrows. A royal blue blazer hung over his broad shoulders, black jeans with shinny leather shoes. His wedding ring on his finger. His shin paler than I remember, a smile that a thought was lost forever.
There sat my baby sister in the arms of the man I thought I would never see before I die.
There she was in the arms of some one I thought would never return.
The man that I loved so much, the man that taught me how to ride a bike, bought me my first pair of heels.
Josh Peters stood before in the flesh.
My father stood before with a smile I missed for the past two years.
