"I wish they would only take me as I am," Vincent Van Gogh once said. I really relate to that quote on so many different levels, what an inspiration, Van Gogh. I've tried to recreate 'Starry Night' almost 13 times, but only to fail each time. But these failures aren't all that bad, because I was able to make something new out of them. I've almost perfectly recreated his piece 'Tree Roots' but it was pretty simple to do, I completed it second time!
When I was ten, my art teacher chose me to paint the mural on the wall, not on a piece of paper, the wall. Needless to say, it's still up there two years later, and whenever I tell the new kids that I made it, they don't believe me. Some people think that I'm an art prodigy, but I'm not. I just started really practicing when I was seven. Some people ask me for pictures, but that's rare, because I only paint on canvas, and canvas is expensive! When people do ask me for paintings, I use wood boards, because I buy my own canvases with odd jobs my neighbors give me. My family can't really afford that much, I mean we have an old computer, and box tv, and they work, but I'm really jealous of the kids who have flat screens, and Mac Book Airs. The kids who have technology like that never get off of their phones. I really wish that I had a phone to never get off of.
I guess I don't have to wish, the world isn't magical. But it would be nice. As we aren't rich, it doesn't look like an iPhone 7 is in my nearby future. In this town, we might be the most poor. It's a town full of richies, and then there's us.
"We aren't gonna be able to pay the water bill this month." Mom says as she walks into my room.
"Take my money I use for supplies. We need water more then I need paint. Plus, at school they are doing the new free art supplies program." I say.
"You earned that money, Hailey!" Mom yells.
"I earned it for things that I want, right now I want you to pay the water bill so we can drink water." I explain.
"Ok, whatever," Mom says, but I could see the guilt in her face.
"How much does it cost?" I ask.
"About 100 dollars, but I can pay for 75."
"25 dollars? I can do that!" I say, and I pull out a twenty dollar bill, and one five.
I turn on the computer, and it takes about 20 minutes to load. But it was worth it. I open 'Internet Explorer' and type in YouTube.com then I had to wait another 10 minutes for that to load.
"Mom! I'm going to the store!" I shout down the stairs, little did she know that I was talking about the computer store. I had finally saved up 200 dollars for the new computer.
