This wasn't a normal Wednesday.
This wasn't a normal day.
Something was off, I could feel it.
As soon as I came downstairs for breakfast Caroline was acting strange, almost like she knew something we didn't.
But nothing was said.
Dad practically rushed out the door, barely getting a word out before grabbing his coffee and leaving. Ash noticed and gave me a look and we both shrugged it off.
We both knew it wasn't normal.
"Do you need me to take the little ones to school?" I asked Caroline while setting my plate in the sink and she shakes her head. "I've got it today, but thank you for the offer Thena." I nodded before heading back upstairs to get ready.
I finished doing my hair in the bathroom just as Ash came in. "It was weird earlier, right? I'm not just overthinking it?" I ask looking at him as he grabbed his toothbrush. "No, it was definitely weird." I nod "We'll leave in five." he nods as well and I head to my room to put my shoes on, and grab my backpack and phone.

Asher and I both barely spoke on the way to school, it was gloomy out. Cloudy, cold, a day you'd want to curl up in a ball and hide away.
We head into school and everyone's whispering to their friends, everyone's looking around almost as if they're looking for answers.
"Did you hear?" Zoe quietly said coming up to Asher and I with Kenz in tow. "Hear what?" I ask "We're having an assembly today, unplanned. None of us knew about it until homeroom teachers told us. It's happening this morning, some people are saying they might even let us out early because of it."
"D.amn that's serious," Asher says "No one knows what is it, the teachers aren't talking. Did your dad say anything to you?" Kenz asks "He ran out this morning, barely said hi to us. I'm going to talk to him now." I say before walking to my locker and throwing all my stuff in.
I check into homeroom first and then head over to my dad's room. "Dad?" I say as I walked in, he didn't have a homeroom so I knew it'd just be him here.
"Hey kiddo what's up?" he asks walking out of his little office "What's going on," I deadpan "everyone's freaking out about this assembly today. What's it about?" He sighs "I'm not allowed to say." "Dad c'mon it's not like anyone will know-"
"Thena if I tell you I could lose my job."
My eyes widen "I'm sorry what?" I squeaked out "Lose your job? Dad what the-" "Just know if I could tell you I would okay bug? You need to go to homeroom they're going to be collecting phones before the assembly."
