When I reach school Monday morning, I can't wait. I run to her class.

There is a huge crowd around Preeti's desk, almost all the students are gathered over there, whispering into each others' ears with pale faces.

I am having a dreadful feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Where is Akshita?

She comes to school with Preeti, her next door neighbour, everyday

Preeti is there in her seat, her head buried in her hands.

My heart is beating so fast, it's the only sound I can hear.

My eyes search desperately for a ray of light. For hope. But she is no where. Everywhere I look it's dark.

She is gone.

She is no more.

I lost her.

But how can you lose something you never really had?
