Peppermint Butler is creepy. He is friends with Death, keeps a not-so secret lair where he once possessed Cinnamon Bun with a demon, and threatened to steal Finn and Jake’s flesh while they are sleeping.
In issue 8 he gets his pace melted off by death and it grows back. Then in issue 21, Peppermint says “We in the Nightosphere… I mean in the Nightosphere they… I mean I heard that in the Nightosphere they…”
He also shows an unnaturally high tolerance of pain, is called “the Dark One” by the Gumball Guardians, and his eyes shift colors. Normal candy people also don’t hiss, like he did to PB when she was possessed by the Lich in Mortal Recoil.
My conclusion, Peppermint Butler is a demon, or at least part of a demon. The demon DNA got mixed in when PB first made the candy people. Probably.
Peppermint Butler has ties in the Nightosphere and the Land of the Dead. Who’s to say he also doesn’t have a past with the Lich. It probably ended badly, since he hissed at the Lich-possessed Princess Bubblegum.
Peppermint Butler was in the effects of the Vault, which was what, 500 years ago? But we can see Candy people age and die like normal in the Suitor. So Peppermint Butler is immortal like PB.
Oh, yeah, He eats flesh! Chew on that for a while. (Heh, heh. Bad puns.) Pepperment Butler has shown signs of liking to chew on other denizens of the Candy Kingdom, and even Finn and Jake themselves. In Death in Bloom, Peppermint Butler transports them to the Land of the Dead in exchange for their flesh. Ha, ha, funny joke PB. And then he says "I'm going to take it from you while you sleep!" Also he wanted to be the Grillmaster in The Real You so that he could make sure his steak was raw or made from a freshly dead corpse.
This is a really morbid part of this encyclopedia. Uhh. Moving on!
