Chapter 51

Caitlyn put down the phone, her hands trembling. She looked down at her stomach, and felt sick with disgust. A feeling of hatred rushed through her as she stared into her abdomen, as if attempting to stare in at the baby inside.

"I hate you!" she screamed, throwing the phone against the wall, "I hate you! I hate you!  I fucking hate you!"

Hot, furious tears streamed down her cheeks as she screeched and howled; it wasn't fair. She loved Bob. She loved him so much that it hurt now, when she had been so horribly betrayed. She was now stuck with a baby that, not only did she not want, but the baby to someone who didn't want HER. Nobody ever wanted her. She was always thrown to the side. Always second-best. Always treated like nothing. And now, even Bob, a man who she trusted more even than her own mother, had thrown her away like she was nothing. And straight after a meal that she had worked so hard to plan.

Every "I love you" had been a lie. Every kiss; every cuddle; every time they had supported each other- it had all been one big joke. Of course; how could she have been so stupid as to think that Bob would ever want her, after being with such a beautiful, fantastic, talented woman like Franchesca. She could never compete. She would never be able to compete.

Bob was probably howling with laughter now at her; laughing together with his beautiful, perfect ex-wife Franchesca. Of course, she couldn't just blame them. Grief can make you do insane things. As can alcohol. And the two together? Who knew what havoc it would wreak; especially in an ex-married couple. Caitlyn was absurd to think that she could ever be as loved as Franchesca. Their love was sacred. So sacred, that Bob and Franchesca had stood at the alter, and swore to be there for each other, till death did they part.

Who was she to think that she could ever could ever compete with that? With a marriage? With Franchesca? How could she ever have been stupid enough to believe that Bob even wanted her in the first place? She was just a re-bound. Something to fill that hole. But now, Franchesca had forgiven him, and she could fill the hole much better than she could.

"Till death do you part," Caitlyn mumbled, wiping away tears, "I'll fucking give you till death do you part!"

Caitlyn glanced at the clock; she was meant to be at university in ten minutes. There was no way that she could face Bob. Not now that she knew what he'd done. And besides, she had plans to make. Plans for Bob. But more importantly, plans for her.

Bob greeted his next class as they flooded through the door. He was looking forward to seeing Caitlyn again, even if it was only for a couple of hours or so. Even when his mind was drowning in a chaos of pain and regret, Caitlyn always tossed him a life-line. She always made him feel better again, even if it was only a little better.

"Good morning, class! It's good to be back after the weekend, is it not?" Bob greeted them, keeping an eager eye out for Caitlyn. However, despite seeing an entire set of familiar faces, Caitlyn's was not one of them.

'That's odd...' Bob thought to himself, 'Caitlyn's never late for class.'

"Does anybody know the whereabouts of Caitlyn Williams?" Bob asked, running through the register.

A chorus of 'no' and 'nope's echoed back to Bob, filling Bob with worry. Despite his worries, Bob kept a smile on his face and continued teaching. After all, he could always ring her after the lesson and find out where she'd been. She was probably just ill; pregnancy was unpredictable.
