The Vampires Slave
Chapter 1
"Come on, Sam, you promised!", Marlena said as she tugged me along, almost ripping off my arm.
"Yeah sure I promised but, you didn't say that we were going here!", I exclaimed while I eyed the busy nightclub. It wasn't what I had in mind when I agreed to go out with her last weekend. Back then, I had been thinking more along the lines of a cinema visit, or going out to eat in some restaurant. The club was in the basement of the building that used to be a red-brick office until the current owner of the 'Hot Spot' bought it a few years ago. The first and second floor were rented to some exclusive fitness center.
We got to the door and Marlena flashed the bouncer our fake IDs and a rather dazzling smile, which couldn't even make the bouncer glance up from Marlenas cleavage. When we got inside I made my way up to the bar, which was very long and sort of circled around half of the dance floor. Making a direct beeline to the nearest free stool, to my delight at an almost deserted corner of the bar, I hopped on it, before I turned back to the mass of convulsing limbs and bodies on the dancefloor. Everything seemed to glow in some bright neon color. I looked around me just in time to see Marlena grinding up to some guy with a flashing neon necklace. It was astonishing how fast she just jumped into her surrounding, blending in perfectly. I didn't even wonder about how quickly she turned from a respectable young women into this senselessly dancing creature without a care in the world. One of these days she was going to be the death of me though. I was always the one to worry too much about her. When she saw me watching her, she quickly made her way up to the bar to sit on the stool by me.
"Isn't this great?", she yelled over the loud music. Her eyes shone brightly with glee at her surroundings. Her cheery attitude was the complete opposite of mine.
Great was something entirely different to me. Great was sitting at home, wrapped up in a warm blanket, reading a book and sipping hot tea. Though I wasn't the person, who thought a club full of sweaty and aggressively grinding men and women was something great, I could see the appeal it had to my best friend. She was as vibrant and full of chaotic craziness, it was part of why I loved so so much, as this club full of people. So instead of a grumbled reply, I answered in the cheery, cheeky way I always did in situations like this. "Sure, if you like it when some sweaty guy grinds up to you."
I ordered a diet soda while Marlena went back to grinding with some other guy, seemingly ending our brief conversation by showing me how much she enjoyed just that. The dance floor seemed like some sort of speed grinding contest which I didn't want to be a part of. I took my soda and fought my way over to one of the lounges in the back of the club. The music wasn't as loud as it was at the bar, which I was grateful for. I just sat there watching Marlena and the other people enjoy themselves. I wondered how all of them could just enjoy that without completely humiliating themselves.
After a while, Marlena came up to me and almost threw me on the dance floor. I couldn't help laughing at her and myself, though the louder I laughed, the less embarassed I felt. After an hour I made my way back to the lounge while Marlena got back to dancing with some new guy. It had a comical speed dating feel, watching her turn and twist around aimlessly whilst dancing, always conjuring up another guy to fall in perfect sync with her chaotic movements. I was watching Marlena as a man made his way up to me. A flash of panic coursed through me. Surely he was just going to walk past me. Though looking around me in a decent manner didn't reveal even anyone, sitting or standing around or behind me.
"Hello there, beautiful.", He said in a raspy voice. He had light brown hair that hung over his face like a veil, with strikingly green eyes. He wore a white button down shirt with black trousers.
"Hey.", I managed weakly as he sat down next to me. He seemed out of place as he watched me intensely. I looked back to the dance floor but couldn't see Marlena anywhere. The look he gave me, made me feel uncomfortable. Was I really expected to talk to such a creature? Sure, men weren't such a big deal to me, though I didn't care much for them really. I didn't feel the need to be in a relationship, nor did I want to be. But this piece of man sitting next to me seemed to be way out of my league. Well, let's just say I wouldn't even be on his radar, even if he did turn it down. Not that I wasn't good looking, I was average, very decent. To sum it up, I was alwasy easy to oversee. Though I was pulled from my thoughts as he opened his mouth again to speak.
"So, what's your name? My name is Austin.", He said with a simple smile.
"Uh, My name's Samantha.", I said, unable to look away from his eyes.
"Come on, Sam! We're leaving.", I heard Marlena say while shaking my shoulder.
"I, uh, have to go", I stammered to Austin, who kept staring intently at me. He was starting to freak me out, he never even blinked. I got up and followed Marlena outside.
"Why are we leaving?", I asked as we left the club.
"Because we've been in there for over 3 hours, plus I'm burning up here.", She answered as she dragged me along.
I saw a group of guys following us down the dark street. I didn't notice them until I heard footsteps behind us. I felt fear rising in me as Marlena pulled me into a dark alley. I froze as we stood huddled in the shadows, waiting for the group of men to pass by us. We were about to step back into the light when we heard new footsteps approaching fast.
"I thought they went this way.", we heard someone say.
"Don't think you idiot! It's a real wonder you stupid humans haven't gone extinct by now!", some other guy said sharply.
"But I-"
"Shut up!", I heard the other guy exclaim with annoyance.
I stiffened when I noticed that he was staring into the shadows where Marlena and me were huddled against each other. I then noticed how pale he looked. He had black hair that hung loose on his head, with dark brown eyes that appeared completely black. He was dressed completely in black.
Marlena slowly moved toward the street when someone basically ripped her away from my side. I turned and watched horrified how the pale man threw Marlena into the far end of the alley. I watched her hit the wall, unable to move from shock.
I eventually turned and ran toward the street as I felt someone jerk me back by my shoulders. I tried to fight off my attacker, but he was stronger and threw me onto the ground. My head spun as I gazed into the night sky, contemplating my own death as a done deal, as I gradually drifted into unconsciousness.
